- Maternal-foetal transmission of Chagas disease can affect newborns globally, and while Benznidazole and Nifurtimox are standard treatments, they're not recommended during pregnancy despite indications they may prevent Congenital Chagas Disease (cCD).
- A systematic review and meta-analysis of six studies showed that women treated with trypanocidal medications had a significantly lower rate of cCD in their children, with no cases of transmission among those treated (0.0% prevalence).
