Few studies have been published on the long-term outcomes of patients with gastric neuroendocrine tumors (gNETs). We analyzed their management over a two-decade period, focusing on endoscopic and clinical outcomes. Clinical, laboratory, endoscopic, surgical, and histopathological data from Types 1 and 3 gNETs histologically diagnosed between March 2000 and December 2021 at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO, Milan) were retrospectively collected.

We performed a meta-analysis of all studies reporting the clinical outcome of patients who discontinued ICIs for reasons other than PD.
Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase and Scopus databases, from the inception of each database to December 2023, for clinical trials (randomized or not) and observational studies assessing PD-(L)1 and CTLA-4 inhibitors in patients with metastatic solid tumors who discontinued treatment for reasons other than PD.
Purpose: Data on the prognostic impact of the micropapillary component in breast cancer are limited. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinicopathological characteristics and long-term outcomes of pure and mixed invasive micropapillary breast cancer (IMPC) patients compared to invasive ductal cancer (IDC) patients.
Methods: This retrospective study analysed all IMPC and IDC patients treated at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) between 1997 and 2019.
Introduction: There is debate on which are the best surrogate endpoint and metric to capture treatment effect on overall survival (OS) in RCTs testing immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).
Methods: We systematically searched for RCTs testing ICIs in patients with advanced solid tumors. Inclusion criteria were: RCTs i) assessing PD-(L)1 and CTLA-4 inhibitors either as monotherapy or in combination with another ICI, and/or targeted therapy, and/or chemotherapy, in patients with advanced solid tumors; ii) randomizing at least 100 patients.
Introduction: To provide evidence explaining the poor association between pCR and patients' long-term outcome at trial-level in neoadjuvant RCTs for breast cancer (BC), we performed a systematic-review and meta-analysis of all RCTs testing neoadjuvant treatments for early-BC and reporting the hazard ratio of DFS (HR) for the intervention versus control arm stratified by pathological response type (i.e., pCR yes versus no).

Purpose: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) significantly improved the prognosis of patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). Several biomarkers, including HER2 and MMR/MSI are crucial for treatment decisions in the advanced stage but, currently, no biomarkers can guide the choice of NAC in clinical practice. Our aim was to evaluate the role of MSI and HER2 status on clinical outcomes.

We performed a systematic review and trial-level meta-analysis of all randomized clinical trials (RCTs) comparing a "limited-extended" adjuvant ET (defined as more than 5 but less than 7.5 years of treatment overall) versus a "full-extended" adjuvant ET (defined as more than 7.

Little is known about the factors influencing the efficiency of the first responders arriving before the EMS and, therefore, effectively contributing to the chain of survival.
Objectives: The primary objective of this retrospective observational study was to identify the factors associated with first responders' arrival before EMS in the context of a regional first responder program arranged to deliver automated external defibrillators on suspected OHCA scenes.

Background: Studies on SARS-CoV-2 conducted in confined settings for prolonged times allow researchers to assess how the coronavirus spreads. San Patrignano (SP), Italy, is the largest European drug rehabilitation facility.
Methods: Between 15 October and 31 December 2020, all SP residents were tested for SARS-CoV-2.
Background: Patients with advanced type B3 thymoma and thymic carcinoma resistant to chemotherapy have few treatment options. We report the efficacy and safety results of the combination of the anti-PD-L1 inhibitor avelumab with the anti-angiogenesis drug axitinib in patients with advanced type B3 thymoma and thymic carcinoma.
Methods: CAVEATT was a single-arm, multicentre, phase 2 trial, conducted in two Italian centres (the European Instituteof Oncology and the Humanitas Institute, Milan) in patients with histologically confirmed type B3 thymoma or thymic carcinoma, with advanced stage of disease who had progressed after at least one line of platinum-based chemotherapy.
Importance: The association of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) with patient quality of life has been poorly explored.
Objective: To evaluate patient-reported outcomes (PROs) assessed in randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of immunotherapy-based treatments.
Data Sources: This systematic review and random-effects meta-analysis used RCTs identified in PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, and Scopus from database inception to June 1, 2021.
Aims: Despite evidence of hemodynamic benefit of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) treatment for acute heart failure (AHF), there are limited data about its efficacy and safety. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of SNP treatment, to explore the impact of N-terminal pro-B natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) reduction on clinical endpoints and to identify possible predictors of clinical response.
Methods And Results: Multicenter retrospective cohort study of 200 patients consecutively admitted for AHF in 2 Italian Centers.
Background: We retrospectively investigated the role of (neo)adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with primary, localized angiosarcoma.
Methods: We selected all patients with primary, localized angiosarcoma, who had received radical surgery between January 2005 and December 2019 at 33 European sarcoma reference centers. The primary objective was to compare the outcome of patients who received (neo)adjuvant chemotherapy versus those who did not, in terms of overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS) and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS).
Purpose: Despite extensive research on cancer and work-related outcomes, evidence from longitudinal cohort studies is limited, especially in young women with breast cancer (BC). We aimed to investigate employment trajectories in young BC survivors and to identify potential factors associated with changes in work activity.
Methods: The HOHO European prospective multicenter cohort study enrolled 300 young women (≤ 40 years) with newly diagnosed BC.
Objective: To evaluate pathological complete response as a surrogate endpoint for disease-free survival and overall survival in regulatory neoadjuvant trials of early stage breast cancer.
Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Data Sources: Medline, Embase, and Scopus to 1 December 2020.
carbapenemase–producing (KPC) has been endemic in Italy since 2013. In a multicenter cohort study, we investigated various aspects of KPC among patients, including 15-day mortality rates and delays in adequate therapy. Most (77%) KPC strains were sequence type (ST) ST512 or ST307.

Aim: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is prevalent in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but controversy exists on whether to screen and how to manage these patients in clinical practice. Here, we estimate the number of patients with T2DM and NAFLD in the United States that should be evaluated for advanced liver fibrosis according to proposed screening strategies.
Methods: In this cross-sectional analysis of 2940 adult patients with T2DM (projected to 15.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is common in patients with hypertension but controversy exists as to whether screening for this condition should be performed. Here, we evaluate the prevalence of NAFLD and advanced fibrosis in US adults across blood pressure categories and estimate the number of patients who require referral to hepatologists. In this cross-sectional analysis of 11 489 adults from the 2005 to 2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, participants were segregated as having optimal, normal, high normal, and elevated blood pressure according to the 2018 European Society of Cardiology/Hypertension guidelines.
