Importance: In-office suprachoroidal viscopexy (SCVEXY) is a relatively new procedure for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), but minimal information is available regarding outcomes and safety.

Objective: To report outcomes with in-office SCVEXY for primary acute RRD.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This retrospective case series was conducted at St Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from June 2023 to February 2024 among consecutive patients with primary acute RRDs who presented with retinal tears that were reachable with the current in-office SCVEXY technique in the temporal or nasal retina.

Article Synopsis
  • A new positioning technique, known as the mini-steamroll maneuver, is introduced for patients with retinal detachment after a procedure called pneumatic retinopexy (PnR).
  • The study involved six patients and showed that the maneuver, which includes a face-down position for 10 minutes, significantly reduced subretinal fluid and aided in retinal reattachment.
  • The findings suggest that the mini-steamroll maneuver could be an effective and simpler alternative for patient positioning post-PnR in specific cases.

Objective: To examine the association between quantitative vascular parameters extracted from intravenous fluorescein angiography (IVFA) and baseline clinical characteristics of patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO).

Methods: Our prospective single-centre study in Toronto, Canada, recruited patients with a diagnosis of macular edema secondary to RVO presenting with a central macular thickness (CMT) ≥310 μm from 2017 to 2023. IVFA images were captured using an ultra-widefield scanning laser ophthalmoscope and processed using the artificial intelligence-based RETICAD system to extract quantitative measurements of blood flow, perfusion, and blood-retinal barrier (BRB) permeability.

Purpose: To investigate associations between quantitative vascular measurements derived from intravenous fluorescein angiography (IVFA) and baseline characteristics on optical coherence tomography (OCT) in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) patients.

Methods: The authors prospectively recruited patients with active choroidal neovascularization secondary to AMD over 50 years old, presenting to a single center in Toronto, Canada from 2017 to 2023. Ultra-widefield IVFA images were processed using the artificial intelligence RETICAD FAassist system to extract quantitative information on blood flow, perfusion, and blood-retinal-barrier (BRB) permeability.

Article Synopsis
  • This study compares the primary reattachment rate (PARR) of two treatments, pneumatic retinopexy (PnR) and pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), for patients with a specific type of retinal detachment.
  • It included 162 patients, where PARR was shown to be similar: 88.2% for PnR and 90.9% for PPV, with PnR providing better visual acuity outcomes.
  • The findings suggest that PnR can be considered a suitable first-line treatment for select patients, as it yields similar reattachment rates while enhancing visual recovery.

Purpose: To describe the optical coherence tomography (OCT) features that can differentiate eyes with fovea-off exudative retinal detachment (ERD) vs rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), with particular attention to outer retinal corrugations (ORCs).

Design: Multicenter, retrospective cross-sectional study.

Methods: Multicenter, retrospective cross-sectional study of patients diagnosed with unilateral or bilateral fovea-off ERD or primary, acute, fovea-off RRD between 2016 and 2021.

Purpose: Retinal displacement following rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) has been associated with inferior functional outcomes. Recent evidence using an overlay technique suggests that fundus-autofluorescence underestimates post-RRD repair retinal displacement. This study aims to validate the overlay technique in normal eyes and to determine its sensitivity and specificity at detecting retinal displacement.

Although there have been numerous innovations in the management of retinal detachment (RD) over the past decades, there is still limited understanding of the pathophysiological processes that take place before and after repair. Summarizing key concepts using animal studies may allow for a better assessment of common pre- and postoperative microstructural abnormalities in RD. We performed a systematic literature review on Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Controlled Register of Trials from January 1968 to January 2022, searching animal or human studies reporting retinal histologic changes following primary or induced RD.

This article presents high-resolution swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) imaging data used to elaborate a mechanical model that elucidates the formation of outer retinal corrugations (ORCs) in rhegmatogenous retinal detachments (RRD). The imaging data shared in the repository and presented in this article is related to the research paper entitled "Outer Retinal Corrugations in Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment: The Retinal Pigment Epithelium-Photoreceptor Dysregulation Theory" (Muni et al., AJO, 2022).
