Are Neighborhood Greenspaces Associated with Leisure-time Physical Activity? Results from ELSA-Brasil Eight-year Follow-up.

We investigated whether neighborhood greenspaces were associated with physical activity in adulthood over 3 cohort visits after considering perceived safety and neighborhood contextual factors. We also evaluated whether the association with greenspace varied by neighborhood socioeconomic status. Participants (N = 4,800) from the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil) residing in two Brazilian state capitals were evaluated in Visits 1 (2008-2010), 2 (2012-2014) and 3 (2017-2019).

Association of hypertension and insulin resistance in individuals free of diabetes in the ELSA-Brasil cohort.

Insulin resistance (IR) is defined as the subnormal response to insulin action on its target tissues. Studies suggest that IR may increase the risk of hypertension, but the results are inconsistent and it is not known whether such an effect is independent of overweight/obesity. We aimed to evaluate the association between IR and the incidence of prehypertension and hypertension in the Brazilian population and whether this association is independent of overweight/obesity.

Public policies in headache disorders: needs and possibilities.

Although headaches have recognized impact, there are no public policies in Brazil addressing this problem. The Brazilian Headache Society and the Brazilian Association of Cluster Headache and Migraine promoted a summit to discuss Public Policy and Advocacy for headache disorders. Professionals from various segments, representing various sectors of society, gathered in April 2019 in Brasília, defining the most important points for achieving advances in public policies in headache in Brazil, such as: inclusion in the chronic diseases surveillance agenda; improving public understanding and access to diagnosis and treatment; teaching in colleges and medical residences, structuring care networks, intervention models, clinical protocols and legislation supporting public policies in headache.

Ingestion of magnesium was not associated with coronary calcium score in a cross-sectional study.

Magnesium plays a key role in glucose metabolism, vascular tone, and inflammation. Therefore, it might be a dietary risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. In vitro and animal studies have suggested a decrease in vascular calcification with an increase in the magnesium intake.

Job Stress and Heart Rate Variability: Findings From the ELSA-Brasil Cohort.

Objective: Evidence suggests that exposure to psychosocial stress at work can inhibit vagal tonus, influencing the capacity to respond to environmental stimuli. We investigated whether job strain and low control and high demand at work, as separate measures, are associated with a reduction in heart rate variability (HRV).

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with 9658 active workers at the baseline (2008-2010) of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil).

We analyzed whether migraine is associated with cognitive performance among participants of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health, ELSA-Brasil. Methods Cross-sectional analysis, including participants with complete information about migraine and aura at baseline.

Serum RBP4 and CKD: Association with insulin resistance and lipids.

Objective: Serum RBP4 is new adipokine and it has been related to insulin resistance and diabetes risk in animal and clinical studies. However, there is controversy on this relationship among CKD patients. In this study, we evaluated the association of serum RBP4 with insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk factors in CKD.
