Is there an association between parenting styles, personality traits, and parent-reported sleep bruxism in Brazilian children?

Objective: To explore the relationship between parenting styles and children's personality traits and parental-reported sleep bruxism (SB).

Methods: A total of 301 parents/caregivers of Brazilian children participated in this cross-sectional study and answered an online questionnaire addressing sociodemographic characteristics, sleep-related behaviors and parent-reported SB. The Brazilian versions of the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Junior assessed children's parenting styles and personality traits.

Global quality scores of Brazilian public health system-related YouTubeTM videos and their users' engagement.

The study assessed the Global Quality Score (GQS) and informational engagement of users with YouTube videos on the Brazilian public health system (SUS). The YouTube video search tool was used with the Portuguese keywords 'unified health system' and 'SUS'. The first 100 videos returned in the search were studied, using the GQS to measure their educational value, usefulness, and information quality.

Parental Reports of Children's Dental Pain Experience and Associated Factors among Brazilian Children.

Exploring children's dental pain experiences helps to develop healthcare policies for improving oral health and quality of life. A cross-sectional study involved 300 parents/caregivers of four- to seven-year-old children using snowball sampling. Parents/caregivers self-completed an online questionnaire on sociodemographic characteristics, parenting styles, their child's oral hygiene practices, free sugar consumption, and dental history.

Dental research related to COVID-19 in Brazil: research presented at the 38th SBPqO Meeting.

The aim of this study was to identify and describe the characteristics of coronavirus (COVID-19)-disease related dental research in Brazil presented at the 38th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Division of the International Association for Dental Research (SBPqO). A search was carried out in the proceedings of the meeting to retrieve all abstracts. Those containing the term "COVID-19" in titles, abstracts, or keywords, and/or those of which the scope approached a COVID-19-related topic were included.

Diagnosis and prevalence of probable awake and sleep bruxism in adolescents: an exploratory analysis.

The aims of this study were to perform an exploratory analysis of probable awake (AB) and sleep bruxism (SB) prevalence using of different diagnosis criteria based on the International Consensus; evaluate the associations between self-report and clinical signs/symptoms in adolescents. Participated in this cross-sectional study 403 adolescents aged 12- to 19-years-old enrolled in public and private schools from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Parents/caregivers answered a questionnaire about sociodemographic status and adolescents' health status.

Psychosocial associated factors of early childhood caries and oral health-related quality of life: Structural equation model approach.

Objective: To identify a structural model for the identification of psychosocial associated factors of early childhood caries (ECC) and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in preschool children and their families.

Methods: A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted with 533 preschool children from 4 to 6 years-old public and private preschools, from Ribeirão das Neves, MG. Parents/caregivers self-completed the Brazilian versions of the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (B-ECOHIS) and Resilience Scale as well as a structured questionnaire addressing socioeconomic status and child's oral health behavior.

Mothers' sense of coherence and oral health-related quality of life of preschoolers: a 3-year cohort study.

The aim of the present study was to assess whether mothers' sense of coherence (SOC) was a predictor of decline in oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of preschoolers. A 3-year cohort study was conducted in Diamantina, Brazil. At baseline, 162 preschoolers aged one to three years were randomly selected from among children registered in local Primary Healthcare Units.

Risk indicators of untreated dental caries incidence among preschoolers: a prospective longitudinal study.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of socioeconomic factors, oral conditions and the impact of OHRQoL as possible risk indicators related to the incidence of untreated dental caries in preschool children two years after an initial examination. A prospective longitudinal study was performed with a sample of 288 preschool children allocated to two groups at baseline (T0): caries free (n = 144) and with untreated dental caries (n = 144). Untreated dental caries was determined through clinical examinations performed by a calibrated dentist at T0 (Kappa > 0,89) and T1 (two years after the baseline) (Kappa > 0,91) using the dmft criteria.

Possible sleep bruxism, smartphone addiction and sleep quality among Brazilian university students during COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives: To evaluate the association of sleep bruxism activity with smartphone addiction and sleep quality among university students during COVID-19 pandemic.

Material And Methods: A cross-sectional online survey with 546 university students in social distancing was conducted (May 29 to June 2 2020). Participants should be undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Brazilian public/private universities.

Factors associated with dentists' search for oral health information during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the factors associated with the search by Brazilian and Portuguese dentists for oral health information on social networks during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 597 Brazilian and Portuguese dentists answered an online questionnaire between January 17 and 31, 2021. Respondents were asked about sociodemographic data, weight and height, hours of sleep per night, screen time for work and leisure, and where they sought information about general and/or oral health for themselves and for their loved ones and information about COVID-19.

Association between different stages of dental caries in preschoolers and familial socioeconomic factors.

This study evaluated the association between socioeconomic factors and stages of dental caries in children one to five years of age. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 759 children enrolled in preschools in Diamantina, Brazil. The parents/caregivers filled out a form addressing socioeconomic factors.

This study aimed to develop and validate the Malocclusion Impact Scale for Early Childhood (MIS-EC), a malocclusion-specific measure of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of children aged 3-5 years and their parents/caregivers. A pool of items was analysed to identify those relevant to the assessment of the impact of malocclusion on OHRQoL. Dental professionals and mothers of children with and without malocclusion rated the importance of these items.

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of hemostatic protocols to prevent bleeding in dental procedures among individuals undergoing oral anticoagulation therapy. A systematic review and network meta-analysis were accomplished. Searches of literature and grey literature were performed in different electronic databases.

Impact of Oral Health Literacy on the Clinical Consequences of Untreated Dental Caries in Preschool Children.

To evaluate the association between parental oral health literacy (OHL) and untreated early childhood caries and its clinical consequences in children. Population-based, cross-sectional study was conducted with 449 parent-preschooler dyads (four-to-six-year-olds) in Ribeirão das Neves, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Parents answered a socioeconomic questionnaire and the Brazilian version of the Hong Kong Oral Health Literacy Assessment Task for Paediatric Dentistry (BOHLAT-P), which measures parental OHL in pediatric dentistry.

Dental and maxillomandibular incidental findings in panoramic radiography among individuals with mucopolysaccharidosis: a cross-sectional study.

The measure of OHRQoL represents a holistic approach for researchers and clinicians extending their visions beyond the mouth and understanding the entire context of the patient.

Objective: The objective of this review is to determine the effectiveness of hemostatic protocols for the prevention of bleeding during dental procedures among individuals receiving oral anticoagulation therapy.

Introduction: Dental procedures may increase the chance of bleeding in individuals receiving oral anticoagulation therapy. The literature suggests different hemostatic protocols for the prevention of bleeding in these individuals but offers no consensus regarding their effectiveness.

Can children's oral hygiene and sleep routines be compromised during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Background: During COVID-19 pandemic, children are confined at home, with changes in family routines.

Aim: Evaluate sleep disorders among Brazilian and Portuguese children during social distancing, and its association with parental perception of child's oral hygiene.

Design: In this cross-sectional study, Portuguese and Brazilian parents/caregivers of 3- to 15-year-old children, practicing social distancing due to COVID-19 pandemic, answered an online questionnaire, from April 24-26, 2020, evaluating sociodemographic characteristics, child's school activities online, child's sleep quality during social distancing.

Structuring adolescent's oral health effects on labour market entry in a cohort study.

Aim: To evaluate the influence of the oral conditions and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) on the entry of adolescents on labour.

Design: This cohort study was performed in southern Brazil, within a random sample of 12-year-old adolescents (n = 1134). Oral health (dental caries, malocclusion, and toothache), OHRQoL (Child Perceptions Questionnaire 11-14), demographic factors, and family's socioeconomic status (household income and mother's education) were collected at baseline (2012).
