Non-valvular atrial fibrillation in patients on peritoneal dialysis, prevalence, treatment and professionals involved.

Atrial fibrillation is the most frequent chronic arrhythmia in patients with chronic kidney disease. Oral anticoagulation with vitamin K antagonists and now direct oral anticoagulants have been and are the fundamental pillars for the prevention of thromboembolic events. However, there are no randomized clinical trials on the risk-benefit profile of oral anticoagulation in patients with chronic kidney disease stage 5 on peritoneal dialysis and there is little evidence in the literature in this population.

The impact of volume overload on technique failure in incident peritoneal dialysis patients.

Background: Technique failure in peritoneal dialysis (PD) can be due to patient- and procedure-related factors. With this analysis, we investigated the association of volume overload at the start and during the early phase of PD and technique failure.

Methods: In this observational, international cohort study with longitudinal follow-up of incident PD patients, technique failure was defined as either transfer to haemodialysis or death, and transplantation was considered as a competing risk.

Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF 23) and phosphocalcic metabolism in chronic kidney disease.

Background And Objectives: The ample information available in relation to FGF 23, calcium, phosphorus, PTH, and 25/1,25 vitamin D has allowed us to define consistent values for each variable in each stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD). These values can define early stages, prognostic issues, and new treatment targets. We describe a cross-sectional study of these parameters in patients with different stages of CKD.
