The search for new antimicrobial agents is a continuous struggle, mainly because more and more cases of resistant strains are being reported. (MTB) is the main microorganism responsible for millions of deaths worldwide. The development of new antimicrobial agents is generally aimed at finding strong interactions with one or more bacterial receptors.

Tannin-based coagulants (TBCs) have the potential to be used to harvest microalgae cultivated at wastewater treatment plants. Their use would address the circular economy associated with the production of low-toxicity biomass and supernatant. Studies in this field are still scarce, and substantial gaps exist in the definitions of the flocculation process parameters.

On the other hand, pharmacokinetic and chemical stability limitations hinder its therapeutic application. Monocarbonyl analogs of curcumin (MACs) have been shown to overcome these barriers.

Moreover, the increasing number of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) cases has alarmed health agencies, warranting extensive efforts to discover novel drugs that are effective and also safe. In this study, 23 new compounds were synthesized and evaluated in vitro against the drug-resistant strains of M.

Purpose: Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is an opportunistic fungal infection that adversely affects a woman's health, due to unpleasant symptoms, therapeutic challenges, and the emergence of resistant strains. The association of natural products and nanotechnology is important to improve the antifungal potential of medicinal plants. We aimed to evaluate the in vitro and in vivo anti- activity of unloaded (EO) and loaded (ME+EO) essential oil of in the microemulsion (ME).

The allergic mechanism has been associated with minimal change disease and allergens have been implied, namely insect stings. We present a case report of a woman with new onset of nephrotic syndrome after a non-hymenoptera insect sting, with biopsy-proven minimal change disease, that was accompanied by a pulmonary thromboembolism process.

The indiscriminate use of antibiotics has facilitated the growing resistance of bacteria, and this has become a serious public health problem worldwide. Several microorganisms are still resistant to multiple antibiotics and are particularly dangerous in the hospital and nursing home environment, and to patients whose care requires devices, such as ventilators and intravenous catheters. A list of twelve pathogenic genera, which especially included bacteria that were not affected by different antibiotics, was released by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017, and the research and development of new antibiotics against these genera has been considered a priority.

Here we have further evaluated the antifungal activity of this extract against strains of and , the two most common etiological agents of candidiasis.

However, the therapeutic uses of this compound are limited due to its chemical instability. In this work, we evaluated the antimicrobial activity of diphenylheptanoids derived from curcumin against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and also against Mycobacterium tuberculosis in terms of MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) and MBC (Minimum Bactericidal Concentration) values.

In order to overcome these problems, this study proposes to develop a mucoadhesive in situ gelling liquid crystalline precursor system composed of 30% of oleic acid and cholesterol (7:1), 40% of ethoxylated and propoxylated cetyl alcohol, and 30% of a dispersion of 16% Poloxamer 407. The effect of the dilution with simulated vaginal fluid (SVF) on this system was evaluated by polarized light microscopy (PLM), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), rheological studies, texture profile analysis (TPA), mucoadhesion study, in vitro drug release test using hypericin (HYP) as drug model, and cytotoxicity assay.

However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no PNP-containing ruthenium complexes applied as metallodrugs. Thus, this study focused on the synthesis, characterization and anti-MTb activity of a new series of coordination compounds with general formula [RuCl(η-p-cymene)(PNP)]X (R=CHPy (Py=pyridine)-[1a], CHPh (Ph=phenyl)-[1b], Ph-[1c] and p-tol (p-tol=p-tolyl)-[1d]; X=PF or BF).

In the past 60 years, no new drugs have been added to the first line regimen, in spite of the fact that thousands of papers have been published on drugs against tuberculosis and hundreds of drugs have received patents as new potential products.

Glial cells have crucial roles in many neuropathological situations and are potential sources of NO. Here, we investigate peripheral glial cell response to Trypanosoma cruzi infection to clarify the role of these cells in the neuronal lesion pathogenesis of Chagas disease.

Early diagnosis provides opportune treatment and reduces its complications, relying fundamentally on the demonstration of impaired sensation in suggestive cutaneous lesions. The loss of tactile sensitivity in the lesions is preceded by the loss of thermal sensitivity, stressing the importance of the thermal test in the suspicious lesions approach.

Prevention and control of flu are of great clinical importance, since they cause serious damage to health, with a consequent impact on quality of life and economy of a country. Resistance against the current drugs justifies the development of new anti-influenza molecules.

PUR-alpha is a highly conserved protein in eukaryotes belonging to the family of single-stranded DNA-binding proteins. Because PUR-alpha is a multifunctional protein that participates in several regulatory events at the level of gene transcription, it became relevant to investigate the structural features of Schistosoma mansoni PUR-alpha (SmPUR-alpha) that could be correlated to its mode of action. Using deletion constructs on a dot blot assay we mapped the domains of GST-SmPUR-alpha fusion protein involved in the interactions with DNA and RNA.
