Subgroups varying in risk and density highlight the potential for stratified breast cancer screening.

Most breast cancer screening programs rely only on demographic data without considering individual risk factors of the population, which might limit their effectiveness by over- and underscreening specific subgroups. Therefore, the aim of this study is to highlight health and economic disparities in outcomes from such a uniform screening strategy. With the microsimulation model MISCAN, we simulated outcomes of the Dutch screening program considering 16 subgroups varying by their 5-year breast cancer risk and breast density.

Implementing HIV teams to improve HIV indicator condition-guided testing in general practitioner centers in the Netherlands.

Background: HIV indicator condition-guided testing is recommended by guidelines to identify undiagnosed HIV infections. However, general practitioners (GPs) frequently see patients for indicator conditions without testing them for HIV. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether implementing HIV teams, using trained GP ambassadors, promoted local HIV indicator condition-guided testing practices in urban GP centers in the Netherlands.

Catalytic Pyrolysis of Polyethylene with Microporous and Mesoporous Materials: Assessing Performance and Mechanistic Understanding.

Testing the catalytic performance for the catalytic pyrolysis of plastic waste is hampered by mass transfer limitations induced by a size mismatch between the catalyst's pores and the bulky polymer molecules. To investigate this aspect, the catalytic behaviour of a series of microporous and mesoporous materials was assessed in the catalytic pyrolysis of polyethylene (PE). More specifically, a mesoporous material, namely sulfated zirconia (Zr(SO)) on SBA-15, was synthesized to increase the pore accessibility, which reduces mass transfer limitations and thereby enables to better assess the effect of active site density on catalyst activity.

Purpose To compare curved and standard compression systems in terms of pain experience and image quality in mammography screening. Materials and Methods In this randomized controlled trial conducted between October 2021 and February 2022, participants screened at three screening sites in the Netherlands were randomized to either a curved-paddle or sham-paddle group.

Background And Objective: Accurate verticality perception is essential for daily life activities, such as correctly estimating object orientation in space. This study established normative data for the subjective visual vertical (SVV) and subjective haptic vertical (SHV) using the portable and self-constructable modified Bucket test and Rotating-Column test. Additionally, the contribution of age, sex, and starting position of the line/ column on SVV and SHV accuracy were evaluated.

The effect of different sweeteners on the oral microbiome: a randomized clinical exploratory pilot study.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to evaluate the modulating effects of five commonly used sweetener (glucose, inulin, isomaltulose, tagatose, trehalose) containing mouth rinses on the oral microbiome.

Methods: A single-centre, double-blind, parallel randomized clinical trial was performed with healthy, 18-55-year-old volunteers (N = 65), who rinsed thrice-daily for two weeks with a 10% solution of one of the allocated sweeteners. Microbiota composition of supragingival dental plaque and the tongue dorsum coating was analysed by 16S RNA gene amplicon sequencing of the V4 hypervariable region (Illumina MiSeq).

Background: For people with limited lifetime expectancy, the benefit of many medications may be outweighed by their potential harms. Despite the relevance of reducing unnecessary medication use, deprescribing is poorly enacted in primary care practice.

Aim: This study aims to describe factors, as identified by primary care professionals and patients, that influence deprescribing in the last phase of life.

Gender-inclusive language in midwifery and perinatal services: A guide and argument for justice.

Effective communication in relation to pregnancy and birth is crucial to quality care. A recent focus in reproductive healthcare on "sexed language" reflects an ideology of unchangeable sex binary and fear of erasure, from both cisgender women and the profession of midwifery. In this paper, we highlight how privileging sexed language causes harm to all who birth-including pregnant trans, gender diverse, and non-binary people-and is, therefore, unethical and incompatible with the principles of midwifery.

Palliative care interventional research in general practice: a narrative review of factors affecting research conduct.

Background And Objective: The majority of palliative care provision occurs in general practice, yet only 9% of palliative care clinical trials were conducted in this setting. Evidence from hospital and specialist settings is not readily transferable to general practice, as the population, context and care processes are vastly different. Conducting interventional palliative care research in general practice settings is subject to many challenges and barriers.

Politicians' high-status signals make less-educated citizens more supportive of aggression against government: A video-vignette survey experiment.

Various branches of the literature suggest that exposure to the high-status appearances and lifestyles of politicians in contemporary "diploma democracies" affects the attitudes and behavior of less-educated citizens because it confronts them with their lower status in the political domain. Informed by this, we theorize that such exposure inspires docility (a lower subjective social status, weaker feelings of political entitlement) and revolt (anger, more support for aggression against government). To investigate this, we conducted an original, pre-registered, video-vignette survey experiment among a representative sample of the Dutch population.

Obstetric violence is an urgent global problem. Recently, several studies have appeared on obstetric violence in the Netherlands, indicating that it is a more widespread phenomenon in Dutch maternity care than commonly thought. At the same time, there has been very little public outrage over these studies.

Does visuospatial neglect contribute to standing balance within the first 12 weeks post-stroke? A prospective longitudinal cohort study.

Background: Visuospatial neglect (VSN) has been suggested to limit standing balance improvement post-stroke. However, studies investigating this association longitudinally by means of repeated within-subject measurements early post-stroke are lacking. This prospective longitudinal cohort study evaluates the longitudinal association of egocentric and allocentric VSN severity with 1) standing balance independence and 2) postural control and weight-bearing asymmetry (WBA) during quiet standing, in the first 12 weeks post-stroke.

What do stances on immigrants' welfare entitlement mean? Evidence from a correlational class analysis.

Recent in-depth qualitative research indicates that different people ascribe different meanings to their apparently similar stances on immigrants' entitlement to welfare. We are the first to investigate such variation quantitatively among the public-at-large, applying the novel method Correlational Class Analysis to an original survey fielded among a representative sample in the Netherlands (n = 2138). We uncover five ways of looking at immigrants' entitlement to welfare, each including both people who oppose that entitlement and those who support it.

High-rate pacing suppresses Torsade de Pointes arrhythmias and reduces spatial dispersion of repolarization in the chronic AV-block dog model.

An electrical storm of Torsade de Pointes arrhythmias (TdP) can be reproducibly induced in the anesthetized chronic AV-block (CAVB) dog by infusion of the I-blocker dofetilide. Earlier studies showed that these arrhythmias 1) arise from locations with high spatial dispersion in repolarization (SDR) and 2) can be suppressed by high-rate pacing. We examined whether suppression of TdP by high-rate pacing is established through a decrease in SDR in the CAVB dog.

Engaging in dialogue with critical mothers, midwives, midwives in training, and doulas in the Netherlands, this study furthers the theoretical understanding of both obstetric violence and the activist resistance against it. Obstetric violence is understood as part of a process of relational separation, leaving the pregnant person isolated. The activist resistance against it is consequently theorized as the abolitionist building of an alternative "otherworld" of radical relational care.

Acceptability of risk-based triage in cervical cancer screening: A focus group study.

Background: Compared to the previous cytology-based program, the introduction of primary high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) based screening in 2017 has led to an increased number of referrals. To counter this, triage of hrHPV-positive women in cervical cancer screening can potentially be optimized by taking sociodemographic and lifestyle risk factors for cervical abnormalities into account. Therefore, it is essential to gain knowledge of the views of women (30-60 years) eligible for cervical cancer screening.
