This study was conducted (1) to document discrepancies between preoperative and postoperative radiographic measurements and postregistration and postimplantation intraoperative navigational measurements of coronal limb alignments, and (2) to identify predictors of discrepancies between radiographic and navigational measures. In addition, we propose the use of a novel radiographic measuring method, and we demonstrate that this method reduces discrepancies. For 107 total knee arthroplasties performed using a navigation system, coronal alignment were assessed using preoperative and postoperative whole limb radiographs using the standard and novel radiographic methods.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Distraction-resisting forces that are generated during distraction osteogenesis can be responsible for complications, including a lag effect on fibular distraction leading to a tibiofibular distraction difference, tibial axial deviation, and distraction at the proximal and distal tibiofibular joints. We investigated the nature of distraction-resisting forces by studying their correlation with these parameters.
Methods: One hundred and eleven tibial lengthening procedures in sixty-three patients were chosen.
Objective: We studied the callus pattern seen in femoral lengthening using monolateral external fixator to determine whether callus types and shapes can predict the final outcome of the procedure.
Material And Methods: The radiographs of 41 cases of femoral lengthening (33 unilateral and 8 bilateral) in 33 patients with a mean age 11.9 years (range 4-22 years) were retrospectively analysed by four observers and classified into different shapes and types in concordance with the Ru Li classification.
