Objective: The aim of the study is to assess the effect of an emergency department (ED) standardized clinical guideline for adolescent heavy menstrual bleeding on the rate of return ED visits and ED provider history-taking and management of this condition.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. Patients less than 18 years old presenting to a single academic children's hospital ED between 2010 and 2020 with a chief complaint of heavy menstrual bleeding were included.
Multiple myeloma (MM) remains a difficult-to-treat disease even with the latest therapeutic advances due to the complex, overlapping, and heterogeneous cytogenetic, genetic, and molecular abnormalities. To address this challenging problem, we previously identified the universal and critical roles of RSK2 and AKT, the effector signaling molecules downstream of PDPK1, regardless of cytogenetic and genetic profiles. Based on this, in this study, we investigated the anti-myeloma potency of TAS0612, a triple inhibitor against RSK, including RSK2, AKT, and S6K.

Intentional tactical deception, the employment of a tactic to intentionally deceive another animal, is a complex behaviour based on higher-order cognition, that has rarely been documented outside of primates and corvids. New laboratory-to-field assays, however, provide the opportunity to investigate such behaviour among free-living mice. In the present study, we placed laboratory-style test chambers with a single entrance near a forest outside Warsaw, where we observed the social interactions of two territorial murids, black-striped and yellow-necked mice, under food competition for seven months.

These activities are accompanied by the discharge of wastewater containing chemical substances and elements that have negative impacts on the ecosystem. The presence of phenol and cyanide contaminants in refinery wastewater poses serious health hazards to humans, necessitating their removal.

This cross-sectional study aims to examine the characteristics of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) FPDs.
Design: A retrospective cross-sectional study.
Multiple myeloma reduces cellular and humoral immunity. Optimal prediction of antibody response to anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine in patients with MM and related disorders is essential to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. This study analyzed the humoral response to the anti-SARS-CoV-2 messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccine and its associated factor in 83 patients from June to November 2021 at seven member institutions of the Kyoto Clinical Hematology Study Group.

The pathogenic basis of miR-17-92 cluster remains unclear although the oncogenic microRNA (miRNA) miR-17-92 cluster is highly expressed in patients with MCL. We revealed that miR-17-92 cluster overexpression is partly dependent on SOX11 expression and chromatin acetylation of MIR17HG enhancer regions.

Methods: The mixed methods pilot feasibility study was carried out between April and September 2021, involving 16 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 5 experts. The usability score was rated according to the System Usability Scale (SUS).
Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare skin cancer, is difficult to diagnose, and carries a high mortality rate. Solid organ transplant recipients (SOTR) are at a disproportionately increased risk of MCC and other malignancies due to chronic immunosuppression. We discuss the case of a 47-year-old woman with a remote history of liver transplant on chronic immunosuppression with tacrolimus for over a decade who presented for a third recurrence of MCC on her left forearm.

Here, we show that selective genetic potentiation of neuronal ERK signaling prevents cell death in vitro and in vivo in the mouse brain, while attenuation of ERK signaling does the opposite. This neuroprotective effect mediated by an enhanced nuclear ERK activity can also be induced by the novel cell penetrating peptide RB5.

Junction temperature is a crucial parameter of power-switching semiconductor devices, which needs monitoring to facilitate reliable operation and thermal control of power electronics circuits and ensure reliable performance. Over the years, various junction temperature measurement techniques have been developed, engaging both non-optical and optical-based methods, highlighting their advancements and challenges.

However, in clinical trials treatment of elevated glucose levels with insulin did not improve stroke outcome, suggesting that collateral effects rather than hyperglycaemia itself aggravate ischemic brain damage. As reactive glucose metabolites, glyoxal and methylglyoxal are candidates for mediating the deleterious effects of hyperglycaemia in acute stroke.

In a broader meaning, it includes comparisons between different biological and socio-cultural groups, such as species, sexes, developmental stages, ages, and ethnicities. This broader meaning originated by extension from the former narrow meaning, which historically was the original meaning of the phrase (interspecies psychological and behavioral comparisons) and which still today is the focus of the field.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to understand the universal concept of halal cosmetics and a framework of critical points that influence consumers in purchasing halal cosmetic products.
Background: Primary ocular adnexal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma (POAML) is the most common subtype of indolent ocular adnexal lymphomas. Although radiotherapy (RT) is the standard of care for localized POAML, it can occasionally lead to permanent side effects. Other treatment strategies, such as rituximab (R) monotherapy and immunochemotherapy, have been used for POAML treatment, but their long-term benefits and relative merits remain unclear.

We here report the first retrospectively investigated case of serum anti-SARS-Cov-2 nAb production during chronic ITP flare-up triggered by COVID-19. A 79-year-old woman with a history of corticosteroid-refractory ITP visited our hospital complaining of fever, cough, and sore throat for 4 days.

Non-invasive visual evoked potential (VEP) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) were used to assess visual function and neuroretinal thickness in C57BL/6 taking 0.2% cuprizone for 7 weeks and at 5, 8, 12, and 15 days after returning to a normal diet.

We previously demonstrated that PDPK1, the master kinase of series of AGC kinases, is universally active in MM, and plays pivotal roles in cell proliferation and cell survival of myeloma cells regardless of the profiles of cytogenetic and genetic abnormalities. This study investigated the therapeutic efficacy and mechanism of action of dual blockade of two major PDPK1 substrates, RSK2 and AKT, in MM.
