Background: Countries affected by armed conflict have higher maternal mortality than stable settings. South Sudan has one of the highest maternal mortality ratios in the world, with an estimated 789 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births. Long-term socio-political instability has contributed to significant challenges in its health system.

Nowadays its application in primary and secondary liver (LCs) and biliary cancers (BTCs) remains uninvestigated. A proof-of-concept prospective observational study including 18 patients underwent surgery for LCs and BTCs from September 2021 to November 2021 was carried out.

As one component of a study on post-abortion care, this study explores community perceptions of unintended pregnancy and abortion in a POC in Juba. Four focus group discussions were conducted with 36 women and married men aged 18-45 living in the POC.

Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the prognostic performance of different inflammatory and immune-nutritional markers in patients who underwent surgery for biliary tract cancer (BTC). The prognostic role of the following inflammatory and immune-nutritional markers were investigated: Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS), modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (mGPS), Prognostic Index (PI), Neutrophil to Lymphocyte ratio (NLR), Platelet to Lymphocyte ratio (PLR), Lymphocyte to Monocyte ratio (LMR), Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI).

Patients And Methods: Of the 220 patients with SCRLM operated on between Mar 2006 and Dec 2017, 169 patients (76.8%) were treated by a simultaneous approach and were included in the study.
Background And Aims: We aimed to investigate the impact of vascular resection (VR) on postoperative outcomes and survival of patients undergoing hepatectomy for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC).
Methods: A retrospective analysis of a multi-institutional series of 270 patients with resected ICC was carried out. Patients were divided into three groups: portal vein VR (PVR), inferior vena cava VR (CVR) and no VR (NVR).
The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between the mutational gene profile and recurrence in biliary tract cancers (BTC). A total of 103 specimens of patients with BTC, who underwent curative surgery in a single tertiary HPB surgery referral center from 1990 to 2012, were assessed for mutational status in 52 cancer-related genes. Considering the different types of BTC, the 5-year recurrence-free survival (RFS) rate was 16.

The aims of this study were to provide evidence that the ALBI score can identify different prognostic groups in Child-Pugh (CP) class A patients undergoing liver resection with curative intent and to verify the ability of the ALBI score to predict short-term and long-term outcomes.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis on patients classified as class A according to the CP score who underwent liver resection with curative intent for HCC between 2006 and 2016 in the Division of Hepatobiliary Surgery at the University of Verona.
Introduction: "Major burn" is used to describe a person who suffers thermal damage affecting more than 30% of his/her total body surface area (TBSA). The secondary hypercatabolism causes lean body mass loss and delayed wound healing.
Objective: To describe and analyze the results of implementing a nutritional support protocol for pediatric burn patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit in the first 6 weeks.
A new modified acyclic nucleoside, namely N(1)-(3-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-2-methylpropyl)-thymidine, was synthesized and transformed into a building block useful for oligonucleotide (ON) automated synthesis. A series of modified thrombin binding aptamers (TBAs) in which the new acyclic nucleoside replaces, one at the time, the thymidine residues were then synthesized and characterized by UV, CD, MS, and (1)H NMR. The biological activity of the resulting TBAs was tested by Prothrombin Time assay (PT assay) and by purified fibrinogen clotting assay.

The initial outbreak was characterized by mild vesicular skin lesions on the legs, which then developed crusts and bled. The overall morbidity rate was 100%, but none of the birds died, and all recovered without complication.

We have chosen the sequence (-108/-90) on the basis of its unfavorable chromatin organization, evaluated by theoretical nucleosome positioning and nuclease hypersensitive sites mapping. On this sequence, anti-parallel triplex with satisfactory thermodynamic stability is formed by two TFOs, having different lengths.

HPLC and ESI-MS analysis have been used to investigate the effect of acrolein exposure on d(TITAGGG)4 human telomeric repeat. Preliminary results disclosed a novel relationship between the structure assumed by oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) and the capability of their nucleobase residues to react with acrolein.

Yersiniosis is considered to be an emerging infection in humans. It is believed that contaminated pork is the main source of infection for man but also beef and cow milk might cause infection in the consumer. Therefore, a survey was carried out to obtain actual data on the prevalence of anti-Yersinia antibodies within cattle.

Gel electrophoresis and CD analyses indicated that the ODNs assume monomolecular quadruplex structures in Na+ and in K+ buffers. The T(m) values, obtained by CD melting experiments, showed that the presence of the acrolein-dG adduct into the ODN b decreases the thermal stability of the monomolecular quadruplex structure in Na+ solution, whereas for a and c no significant effect could be detected in the same experimental conditions.

Only species of falconidae imported from Arabian or Asian countries have so far tested positive for poxvirus, and, among these, only raptors kept for falconry. As part of a reintroduction programme in the northern county of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which is adjacent to the Baltic Sea, 21 young peregrine falcons were released into the wild; six of them died and one was examined postmortem, its tissues being examined by light and electron microscopy.

In Bavaria a BHV-1 eradication program was initiated in 1986 and was changed to a compulsory program in 1998. The eradication success increased progressively from < 50% in 1986 to 87% of the farms in 2002. BHV 1-free farms are controlled by bulk milk serology twice a year along with blood serology in animals that are negative but from herds where positive field virus infected animals are present.

To provide a fast and easy method to detect antibodies against fowlpox virus (FWPV) particularly in high numbers of chicken sera we established a monoclonal blocking enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We chose two different monoclonal antibodies (mAb), anti-FWPV 3D9/2B3 and anti-FWPV 8F3/2E11, which are both directed against the 39-kDa protein of FWPV strain HP-1. The blocking ELISA depends on the blocking of mAb binding to solid-phase antigen in the presence of positive serum.
