Plants simultaneously interact with belowground symbionts such as arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi and aboveground antagonists such as aphids. Health care disparities and racial health inequities significantly influence health care delivery and patient outcomes, including for people with injuries of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). This narrative review explores factors that may influence the management of ACL injuries. In June 2021, over 200 stakeholders, advocates, and visionaries gathered to launch the Healthy Hawai'i Strategic Plan 2030 (HHSP), a 10-year strategic plan for improving the health of Hawai'i residents by preventing and reducing chronic disease and advancing health equity. The HHSP is a guide to enable coordination across common risk factors, program areas, interventions, and strategies for chronic disease prevention and control. Developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, which revealed major areas of susceptibility in our health system infrastructure and magnified existing disparities, the HHSP prioritizes health equity and strives to create sustainable change to transform communities, schools, health care and worksites to support the health of the people of Hawai'i.

We report the development of in vitro propagation protocols through an adventitious shoot induction pathway for a rare and medicinal In vitro propagation studies using nodal explants showed MS medium supplemented with 10 µM 6-Benzylaminopurine induced the highest number of adventitious shoots in a time-dependent manner. A ten-day incubation was optimum for shoot bud induction as longer exposures resulted in hyperhydricity of the explants and shoots induced. We also report preliminary evidence of EHA105-mediated gene transfer transiently expressing the green fluorescent protein in this species.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a unique challenge for sports medicine staffs as they attempt to safely transition elite athletes into sport participation after COVID-19 infections. Athletes must isolate for a period after testing positive for COVID-19 to prevent the spread of the virus in a community. After an isolation period, a battery of cardiac tests must be given to assess whether an athlete is ready to begin a reconditioning protocol.

Various steps of micropropagation include selection of suitable explant, establishment of adventitious shoot induction cultures, proliferation, rooting, and acclimatization of the resulting plantlets. A systematic protocol is provided for the micropropagation and Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated genetic transformation of a fast growing, multipurpose tree, Paulownia elongata. Our studies show that optimum shoot induction is on half leaf with petiole explant on MS medium supplemented with 25 μM thidiazuron and 10 μM indole-3 acetic acid.

Background: The Healthy Hawai'i Initiative was created in 2000 with tobacco settlement funds as a theory-based statewide effort to promote health-supporting environments through systems and policy change. Hawai'i has comprehensive statewide tobacco control policies and was the first US state to raise the minimum age of sale, purchase, and possession of tobacco products to age 21 ("Tobacco 21") in a policy including not just cigarettes, but also electronic smoking devices and other tobacco products. This insights article provides strategic thinking about tobacco control advocacy planning. Specifically, we identify formative factors critical to building and sustaining our cross-sector, statewide advocacy infrastructure that has been able to address many ongoing challenges of tobacco-use prevention and control over time.
