Article Synopsis
  • Soil ecosystems are complex and diverse, with this study using whole gene sequencing (WGS) to analyze microbial diversity and stress-response genes in soil samples from two distinct forests to gain more insights into their composition and function.
  • The research findings showed that Proteobacteria were the most abundant microorganisms, comprising over 48% to 52% of microbial diversity, with significant differences in acidic stress-response genes related to soil pH levels.
  • Taxonomic analysis indicated that both forests are dominated by bacteria, with Royal Belum showing 98% bacterial presence and Raja Musa having up to 98% as well, while Archaea and other life forms comprised only a small fraction of the total diversity.

Objectives: This study reported SARS-CoV-2 whole genome sequencing results from June 2021 to January 2022 from seven genome sequencing centers in Malaysia as part of the national surveillance program.

Methods: COVID-19 samples that tested positive by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and with cycle threshold values <30 were obtained throughout Malaysia. Sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 complete genomes was performed using Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, or Ion Torrent platforms.
