Synthesis and crystal structure of methyl 3-(3-hy-droxy-3-phenyl-prop-2-eno-yl)benzoate.

The title compound, CHO, was synthesized under mild conditions and characterized by various analytical techniques. Combined NMR and X-ray diffraction data show that the substance exists exclusively in the enol tautomeric form. An intra-molecular ⋯O=C-C=C-OH⋯ hydrogen bond is present in the mol-ecular structure.

The chiral title compound, [CeNi6(C3H6NO2)12][Ce(NO3)3(OH)3(H2O)], comprises a complex heterometallic Ni/Ce cation and a homonuclear Ce anion. Both the cation and anion exhibit point group symmetry 3. with the Ce(III) atom situated on the threefold rotation axis.
