[Posterior vitrectomy--ground principles].

In this paper, we present the principles of posterior vitrectomy and describe the devices used for this type of surgery.

[Intraocular foreign body].

The authors present the case of a patient who suffered a penetrating ocular trauma due to wood IOFB. An emergency surgery is initiated for the traumatic cataract, afterwards the IOFB is extracted through posterior vitrectomy. The patient seeks medical help after another 3 weeks, being diagnosed with retinal detachment, which is solved surgically.

[Conjunctival tumor...more than meet the eye].

The authors present the case of a patient diagnosed with a conjunctival tumor. Questions are being asked about the nature of the tumor--is there just a melanocitic conjunctival tumor or a scleral extension of a intraocular tumor (that also infiltrates the cornea). A minimally invasive surgical approach is decided, with excellent intra- and post-op results.

[Juvenile glaucoma].

We present the case of a 24 years old patient with advanced juvenile glaucoma.

[Prostaglandin analogues and central corneal thickness].

Unlabelled: Prostaglandin analogs reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) by activation of matrixmetalloproteinase enzymes (MMP) and increasing uveoscleral outflow. MMP's were found in cornea and their activation could change the central corneal thickness (CCT).

Purpose: To compare the effects of different prostaglandin analogues on central corneal thickness (CCT).

[Glaucoma, hydrocephaly and quadrantanopsias].

The authors present the case of a male patient who was diagnosed with juvenile glaucoma after an ophthalmologic examination. The patient had a previous diagnosis: hydrocephaly.

[Protein C reactive and glaucoma].

Purpose: To observe the possible implications of the C reactive protein in pathogenesis of the glaucoma.

Methods: A clinical observational prospective study on 2 groups: group A 14 glaucomatous patients and group B--control (12 normal subjects) without history of ocular pathology or general pathology known to be associated with high plasma levels of CRP. The groups were homogeneous about the age and sex distribution.

[Intraocular irrigating solutions during phacoemulsification and corneal changes].

This study evaluate the number, density and quality of endothelial cells of the cornea during phacoemulsification when several sterile intraocular irrigating solutions are used.

[IOP diurnal fluctuations in patients presenting pseudoexfoliative syndrome].

Purpose: To analyze the IOP diurnal fluctuations in patients presenting pseudoexfoliative syndrome (PEX) compared to those without PEX.

Method: A clinical observational prospective study, one year, on 2 groups of patients: group A (13 patients)--with pseudoexfoliative syndrome (PEX) and group B, control, (11 patients)--without PEX. The groups were homogeneous about the age and sex distribution.
