Introduction: The HEART score is a widely used clinical decision tool that provides emergency providers with objective risk stratification for patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with undifferentiated chest pain (CP). There is no data as to which patients undergo formal risk stratification with a HEART score, and whether patient demographics influence decisions to apply the HEART score. Our objective was to determine if sex or race independently predict documentation of patients' HEART scores in CP patients.

People living with HIV/AIDS (PHA) often concurrently cope with mental health disorders that may greatly influence HIV and other health-related outcomes. The objective of this study was to examine the prevalence and correlates of self-reported mental health disorder diagnosis among a cohort of harder-to-reach HIV-positive individuals in British Columbia, Canada. Between 2007 and 2010, 1000 PHA who had initiated ART were enrolled in the Longitudinal Investigation into Supportive and Ancillary health services (LISA) study.

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) serves as a critical site of protein synthesis and processing. The temperature-sensitive hamster fibroblast cell line (tsBN7) displays deficient N-linked glycosylation activity at the restrictive temperature and activates cellular apoptosis. Temperature-shifted tsBN7 cells display induction of Grp78 and Gadd153, genes known to be induced by ER stress, and activate apoptosis via the release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria.

Signaling molecules such as Cdc42 and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) can function in multiple pathways in the same cell. Here, we propose one mechanism by which such factors may be directed to function in a particular pathway such that a specific response is elicited. Using genomic approaches, we identify a new component of the Cdc42- and MAPK-dependent signaling pathway that regulates filamentous growth (FG) in yeast.
