Introduction: The purpose of this study was to compare effects of smoking and smokeless forms of tobacco consumption (tobacco chewing) on periodontal disease parameters and response of these subjects to non-surgical periodontal therapy.
Materials And Methods: Ten patients aged between 30 and 55 years with intrabony defects greater than or equal to 3 mm and pocket probing depth (PPD) greater than or equal to 5 mm were selected. All participants received chitosan gel (15% w/v) plus bovine porous bone mineral as a composite bone graft.
Aim: : The purpose of this trial was to evaluate the outcome of a modification of pin hole surgical technique which consists of a minimally invasive coronally advanced tunnel technique (MI-CAT) with orthodontic buttons and suturing in the treatment of multiple recession type defects.
Materials And Methods: Twelve systemically healthy patients (79 sites) aged between 22 - 55 years with Miller's Class I and II multiple recession defects were treated with minimally invasive coronally advanced tunnel technique. Thirty-nine sites were randomly assigned to a control group and the other 40 sites to the test group.
Background: This preliminary study assesses the effects of initial periodontal treatment on salivary levels of 8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) as a marker of oxidative stress in patients with chronic periodontitis (CP).
Methods: At baseline, clinical parameters and saliva samples were obtained from 20 patients with CP and 10 patients with clinically healthy periodontium. Saliva samples were collected, and clinical periodontal measurements were repeated at 2, 4, and 8 weeks after initial periodontal therapy in patients with CP.
Anatomical characteristics, periodontal diseases and toothbrushing trauma make the management of multiple, adjacent, recession-type defects (MARTDs) particularly challenging. Even though connective tissue grafting is considered the gold standard in management, it has limitations, such as a second surgical site and limited amount of donor graft. Porcine pericardium membrane (PPM) is a reliable soft-tissue substitute with a three-dimensional collagen network that exhibits better stability, slow degradation, high-tear resistance, good handling properties and enhanced vascularization.

Methods: A pilot study split-mouth design of 10 patients within the age group of 30 to 55 years with bilateral intrabony defects ≥ 3mm and clinical attachment levels (CAL) ≥ 5mm were selected. The test site received open flap debridement with 15% Chitosan gel as a regenerative material and the controlateral side that acted as a control received only open flap debridement.
Introduction: Chitosan is a natural polymer found in abundance in nature. It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties and is biodegradable and biocompatible in nature. It has been used in various forms as an anti-microbial agent in oral care.
