The Efficacy of Conservative Management in Uncomplicated Acute Appendicitis - A Single-Center Retrospective Study.

Background Acute appendicitis remains the most common cause of lower abdominal pain leading to emergency visits. Even though the standard treatment of acute appendicitis remains appendectomy, in recent times, multiple randomized control trials and meta-analyses have deduced conservative treatment as a successful alternative treatment. During the coronavirus disease (COVID) pandemic, with a shortage of staff and resources, treatment with conservative management of uncomplicated acute appendicitis became very beneficial under certain circumstances and conditions.

A generalized framework for the quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effects in the strong coupling regime.

It is well known that repeated projective measurements can either slow down (the Zeno effect) or speed up (the anti-Zeno effect) quantum evolution. Until now, studies of these effects for a two-level system interacting with its environment have focused on repeatedly preparing the excited state via projective measurements. In this paper, we consider the repeated preparation of an arbitrary state of a two-level system that is interacting strongly with an environment of harmonic oscillators.

Dynamics and Entanglement in Quantum and Quantum-Classical Systems: Lessons for Gravity.

Motivated by quantum gravity, semiclassical theory, and quantum theory on curved spacetimes, we study the system of an oscillator coupled to two spin-1/2 particles. This model provides a prototype for comparing three types of dynamics: the full quantum theory, the classical oscillator with spin backreaction, and spins propagating on a fixed oscillator background. From calculations of oscillator and entanglement entropy evolution, we find the three systems give equivalent dynamics for sufficiently weak oscillator-spin couplings but deviate significantly for intermediate couplings.

Laparoscopic splenectomy.

Patients undergoing laparoscopic splenectomy were observed for their postoperative recovery and development of complications. It was a retrospective analysis done at Services Hospital and National Hospital and Medical Center, Lahore, from January 2010 to December 2012. A total of 13 patients underwent laparoscopic splenectomy and were included in the study.

Carcinosarcoma of the breast.

Carcinosarcoma of the breast is an extremely rare and aggressive tumour with two distinct cell lines comprising epithelial and mesenchymal components, with few cases reported in the literature. The prognosis of carcinosarcoma breast is less favourable compared to more common types of breast cancers such as infiltrating ductal or lobular carcinomas. These tumours form a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.

Correlation of perfusion and contractility of left ventricle myocardium on gated myocardial perfusion scintigraphy.

Background: Gated Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography (SPECT) is a modality which is helpful in the detection of wall motion, thickening and ejection fraction of left ventricle. The purpose of this study was to correlate the ungated and gated SPECT in evaluation of left ventricle dysfunction.

Method: It was a prospective study done at Institute of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine (IRNUM), Peshawar, in 2001/02.
