Article Synopsis
  • Sperm cryopreservation is effective for nearly all men undergoing treatments that could harm fertility, although the timing of sperm collection varies based on individual circumstances.
  • Most men with cancer can successfully provide sperm samples, but overall sperm output is lower for cancer patients and those with non-cancer conditions compared to healthy controls.
  • A significant portion of cryostored sperm remains unused, with the majority being discarded after years of preservation, indicating that fertility often returns for many individuals.

Nocardia is an opportunistic pathogen and Pulmonary Nocardiosis (PN) occurred in more than half of the cases in subjects with immuno-suppressed status. COPD is one of the most common comorbidity observed in immuno-competent patients with PN. Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how testosterone implants affect the risk of polycythemia (high red blood cell count) in hypogonadal men compared to traditional injections.
  • In 158 participants, higher testosterone levels and older age were associated with increased polycythemia, while smoking also showed a potential link.
  • Results suggest that elevated testosterone levels, rather than the length of treatment, are significant predictors of polycythemia, and a relationship between testosterone and erythropoietin levels was noted.

Objective: In order to assess the hormonal determinants of insulin sensitivity and related components of the metabolic syndrome, we evaluated the effect of subcutaneous recombinant human chorionic gonadotropin (r-hCG; Ovidrel) on insulin sensitivity, vascular reactivity, leptin, insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and lipids in ambulant, community dwelling men >60 Years of age with serum testosterone
Design: Forty eligible men were randomized to receive 250 microg (5000 IU) r-hCG subcutaneously twice each week (n=20) or placebo (n=20) injections for 3 Months, and all subjects (mean age 67 (range 60-85) Years) completed the study.

Methods And Results: Groups were well matched for height, weight, anthropometry and insulin sensitivity.
