Determining disease activity from clinical signs in patients with connective tissue panniculitis (CTP) is often challenging but is essential for therapeutic decision making, which largely relies on immunosuppressant treatment. High-frequency ultrasound (HFUS) may be useful in supporting such decisions by accurately determining CTP activity. This study aimed to investigate the accuracy of HFUS in identifying signs of CTP activity or inactivity and assess its usefulness in therapeutic decision making.

Article Synopsis
  • Data on skin lesions related to SARS-CoV-2 is limited, prompting a study of patients at a Barcelona hospital during April-May 2020 to analyze clinical and histopathological characteristics.
  • Out of 2761 patients, only 58 (2.1%) presented with skin lesions categorized into six patterns, including generalized maculo-papular and chilblain-like lesions, with a majority undergoing skin biopsies for analysis.
  • Chilblain-like lesions were notably associated with younger patients and a less severe COVID-19 presentation, as they generally had fewer systemic symptoms and lower rates of hospitalization compared to other lesion types.

Tissue tropism could explain the difference between rectal and oral mucosa infection frequencies.
