The role of the T-cell mediated immune response to Cytomegalovirus infection in intrauterine transmission.

Introduction: Prognostic markers for fetal transmission of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection during pregnancy are poorly understood. Maternal CMV-specific T-cell responses may help prevent fetal transmission and thus, we set out to assess whether this may be the case in pregnant women who develop a primary CMV infection.

Methods: A multicenter prospective study was carried out at 8 hospitals in Spain, from January 2017 to April 2020.

Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Breastfeeding Outcomes in Mothers with COVID-19 Infection During the First Weeks of the Pandemic in Spain.

Background: Adherence to the Ten Steps of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative has been shown to have a protective role for the initiation and maintenance of breastfeeding.

Research Aims: (1) To determine the breastfeeding rate during the first 6 months of life in children of mothers diagnosed with COVID-19 infection at the time of birth; and (2) to assess the possible influence of being born in a center with Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative accreditation.

Methods: This was a two-group comparative longitudinal observational study of infants born to mothers with COVID-19 at the time of birth, between March 13-May 31, 2020 (the first wave of the pandemic) in Spain.

Maternal, Perinatal and Neonatal Outcomes With COVID-19: A Multicenter Study of 242 Pregnancies and Their 248 Infant Newborns During Their First Month of Life.

Background: Our aim was to describe the clinical features of mothers with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection during gestation or delivery, and the potential vertical transmission. We also wish to evaluate the possible horizontal transmission after hospital discharge, by means of a follow-up of all the newborns included at 1 month of age.

Methods: This multicenter descriptive study involved 16 Spanish hospitals.

Streptococcus pneumoniae: the forgotten microorganism in neonatal sepsis.

Unlabelled: Streptococcus pneumoniae is a rarely cause of neonatal sepsis. Its prevalence is low but with a mortality of 50%. Measures to prevent Streptococcus agalactiae transmission could help to increase Invasive Pneumococcal Disease (IPD) in newborns.

Terminal deletion of the chromosome 7(q36-qter) in an infant with sacral agenesis and anterior myelomeningocele.

We report on a new patient with a 7q terminal deletion. The 18-month-old boy had metal retardation, microcephaly, a distinctive face, bilateral coloboma, café-au-lait spot on the abdomen, and sacral agenesis. The high resolution GTG bands (550-850 bands), currently used in our laboratory, showed a 7q terminal deletion, which was also confirmed with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).
