Novel Echocardiographic Indices for Assessing the Left Main Coronary Artery in Children With Kawasaki Disease.

Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is the most common cause of acquired myocardial infarction in children. Coronary artery involvement is the most serious feature of this vasculitis syndrome. Timely diagnosis of coronary artery involvement is of utmost importance since it can prevent long-term morbidity and mortality.

Frequency of Congenital Heart Diseases in Prelingual Sensory-Neural Deaf Children.

Introduction: Hearing impairment is the most frequent sensorial congenital defect in newborns and has increased to 2-4 cases per 1,000 live births. Sensory-neural hearing loss (SNHL) accounts for more than 90% of all hearing loss. This disorder is associated with other congenital disorders such as renal, skeletal, ocular, and cardiac disorders.

Kawasaki Disease and Peripheral Gangrene in Infancy.

Introduction: Early diagnosis and treatment of Kawasaki disease as the most common cause of acquired heart disease in childhood, may significantly improve the prognosis. Diagnosing infantile Kawasaki (younger than a year) is difficult because of obscure symptoms; at the same time they are at the higher risk of coronary abnormalities.

Case Presentation: We report three infants with prolonged (more than 5 days) fever and peripheral gangrene without any other clinical manifestations of Kawasaki disease.
