A prospective study on various clinical isolates from patients admitted from various parts of NWFP and Afghanistan at Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar was conducted from January 2000 to December 2004 to ascertain the prevalence and antimicrobial susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections. Among 4709 positive isolates, 314 (6.67%) were Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Materials And Methods: An initial reconnaissance survey (rapid rural appraisal) among the local shepherds was conducted to identify the traditional healers. Information was collected from the traditional healers using a well-structured questionnaire through open-ended interviews and guided dialogue technique.
Aim Of The Study: This study was conducted to document the ethnoveterinary practices (EVPs) used for the treatment and/or management of reproductive disorders of cattle and buffaloes.
Materials And Methods: The information was collected using rapid and participatory rural appraisal techniques through interviews and focused group discussions with 217 traditional veterinary healers (TVHs) over a period of 16 months.
Results: The use of 66 plant species was documented for the treatment of reproductive disorders in the two dairy species.
Acute aortic dissection is rare but potentially catastrophic complication of pregnancy. Aortic root enlargement, congenital bicuspid aortic valve disease, and Marfan syndrome have been identified as critical risk factors for peripartum aortic dissection. Most of the aortic dissections reported to date involve the ascending aorta and occur before delivery, but only a few cases of postpartum aortic dissection have been described.

Clinical Features: The patient was an acutely ill man with a history of right tonsillar carcinoma originally treated with chemoradiation therapy and a radical neck dissection who presented with a brief history of fever, dyspnea, and stridor. The soft tissue of his neck was very stiff, his neck mobility was limited, and his mouth opening was restricted by pain and radiation-induced fibrosis.
This study was aimed to evaluate the efficacy of crude aqueous-methanol and aqueous extracts of neem (Azadirachta indica) seed kernel against sarcoptic mange of sheep. Crude aqueous-methanol (AME) and aqueous extracts (AE) of neem seed kernel (NSK) were prepared and formulated as 10% and 20% ointments (w/w), using Vaseline as vehicle. Forty-two lambs of Pak Karakul breed, having natural infection of sarcoptic mange were divided into seven experimental groups.

For this purpose, 100 faecal samples were collected from sheep, goats, cattle and buffaloes. Parasitological procedures including direct and indirect methods (sedimentation and floatation) and coproculture were used for the identification of helminths.

The occurrence of seizure-like activity during emergence from sevoflurane anesthesia has been rarely reported.
Clinical Features: We describe a patient who developed several episodes of generalized tonic-clonic seizure-like activity during and immediately after emergence from sevoflurane anesthesia and discuss the potential factors that contributed to this unusual complication.

A novel method to synthesize single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT)/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanocomposite by in-situ polymerization in supercritical CO2 is presented. The surfaces of the SWNT bundles were first functionalized with amino ethyl methacrylate (AEMA) followed by co-polymerization with methyl methacrylate. Supercritical fluid enhanced the diffusivity of monomer and facilitated the growth of tethered PMMA chains near the entanglement area and the interstitial space of the SWNT bundles.

CMI against dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) and sheep red blood cells (SRBC) in rabbits was determined by delayed-type hypersensitivity and macrophage engulfment assay (MEA), respectively; whereas, HI to Pasteurella multocida B2 vaccine and SRBC was determined by indirect haemagglutination assay (IHA) and Jerne hemolytic plaque formation assay (JHPFA), respectively. The rabbits were divided into four major groups (A through D) each subdivided into four sub-groups (1 through 4).

Although POCD is most frequent after cardiac surgery, the prevalence of POCD after noncardiac surgery in older patients is also significant. The risk factors for POCD after noncardiac surgery include advanced age and preexisting cognitive impairment.
