Antimicrobial resistance is currently recognized as an urgent concern against public health in worldwide. Carbapenem-resistant (CR) Gram-negative bacteria, such as Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii are listed as critical pathogens which are widely spread and can cause severe and often deadly infections in WHO guidance. Cefiderocol (Fetroja), a novel and first siderophore cephalosporin, was approved for the infections caused by these problematic CR Gram-negative bacteria in Japan on November 30, 2023.

In this study, we evaluated the potential utility of an integrin αβ positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracer, F-labeled cyclic arginine-glycine-aspartic acid penta-peptide ([F]F-FPP-RGD), for detecting hepatic integrin α and function in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) model rats using integrin α siRNA.
Methods: NASH model rats were produced by feeding a choline-deficient, low-methionine, high-fat diet for 8 weeks.
Aims: To investigate the preferences of the Japanese population for government policies expected to address infectious disease outbreaks and epidemics.
Methods: We performed a conjoint analysis based on survey data in December 2022 (registration number: UMIN000049665). The attributes for the conjoint analysis were policies: tests, vaccines, therapeutic drugs, behavior restrictions (e.
Diabetes is a global healthcare problem that affects more than 400 million people worldwide. Treatment for type 1 and 2 diabetes is expected by targeting adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase, AMPK, a well-known master regulator of glucose. Many pharmaceutical companies have tried to identify AMPK activators but few direct AMPK activators with high potency for the β2-AMPK isoform, which is important for glucose homeostasis, have been found.

Therefore, activation of AMPK has been proposed as an attractive strategy for the treatment of metabolic disorders, such as type 2 diabetes. Many of existing AMPK activators bearing diverse chemical structure were reported.

Recently, we reported that an RGD peptide positron emission tomography (PET) probe is useful as a predictor of hepatic fibrosis. Kinetic analysis of the RGD PET probe has been performed in tumours, but not in hepatic fibrosis.

Here, we aimed to examine whether hyperinsulinemia could affect the progression of insulin resistance in Zucker fatty diabetic (ZDF) rats. Male ZDF rats at 8 wk of age were fed a diet ad libitum (AL) or dietary restriction (DR) of either 15 or 30% from AL feeding over 6 wk.

Cell surface expression levels of AMPAR modulate synaptic plasticity, which is considered one of the molecular bases for learning and memory formation. To date, a unique trisaccharide (HSO3-3GlcAβ1-3Galβ1-4GlcNAc), human natural killer-1 (HNK-1) carbohydrate, was found expressed specifically on N-linked glycans of GluA2 and regulated the cell surface expression of AMPAR and the spine maturation process.

Our previous report showed that mice lacking a glucuronyltransferase (GlcAT-P), a key enzyme for biosynthesis of the HNK-1 epitope, showed reduced long term potentiation at hippocampal CA1 synapses. In this study, we identified an alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazole propionate (AMPA)-type glutamate receptor subunit, GluR2, which directly contributes to excitatory synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity, as a novel HNK-1 carrier molecule.

Glycosylation is a major post-translational protein modification, especially for cell surface proteins, which play important roles in a variety of cellular functions, including recognition and adhesion. Among them, we have been interested in HNK-1 (human natural killer-1) carbohydrate, which is characteristically expressed on a series of cell adhesion molecules in the nervous system. The HNK-1 carbohydrate has a unique structural feature, i.

Two glucuronyltransferases (GlcAT-P and GlcAT-S) are involved in the biosynthesis of HNK-1 carbohydrate. Our previous study on the crystal structure of GlcAT-P revealed the reaction and substrate recognition mechanisms of this enzyme.
