Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the frequency of gallbladder lesions and improve diagnostic consistency in cholecystectomy reports through both macroscopic and microscopic analyses across multiple institutions.
  • Involving 14 institutions, 5,244 cholecystectomy cases were examined, with additional sampling deemed necessary in about 11% of cases, leading to revised diagnoses in 144 instances.
  • The findings highlight the importance of standardized criteria for examinations, suggesting that further sampling enhances diagnostic accuracy and consistency in gallbladder pathology.

There is no systematic histopathologic analysis of non-neoplastic polyps in the gallbladder. In this study, in addition to a computer search for cases designated as "polyp," a systematic review of 2533 consecutive routinely sampled archival and 203 totally submitted prospective cholecystectomies were analyzed for >2 mm polyps (cut-off was based on radiologic sensitivity). A total of 447 non-neoplastic polyps were identified.

The distinction between tuberculous peritonitis and peritoneal carcinomatosis is extremely difficult in patients with omental cake appearance on computed tomography and elevated CA-125 level. A 21-year-old female presented with abdominal distention, diarrhea, nausea, fever, weight loss, and night sweats. Serum CA-125 level was 563 U/L (normal range: <35 U/L) and other tumor markers were within normal range.

Introduction: Primary choriocarcinoma of the colon is an extremely rare neoplasm which has a poor prognosis. Only 18 cases have been previously reported in English medical literature. Here we present a case of primary rectal choriocarcinoma with a good response to chemotherapy and review the literature on this uncommon tumor.

Sarcomatoid carcinomas recently came into the spotlight through genetic profiling studies and also as a distinct model of epithelial-mesenchymal transition. The literature on sarcomatoid carcinomas of gallbladder is limited. In this study, 656 gallbladder carcinomas (GBC) were reviewed.

Background: Intraductal oncocytic papillary neoplasm (IOPN) of the pancreas is a rare tumor. Recent molecular data indicate that it is distinct from other intraductal neoplasms; however, its clinicopathologic characteristics, especially the frequency/significance of an invasive carcinoma component, and biologic behavior remain to be fully defined.

Design: Clinicopathologic characteristics and survival of 24 IOPNs were analyzed.

Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma is a highly lethal malignancy. Previously, only five cases of a noninvasive form of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma with excellent prognosis were reported. We report a case of a 68-year-old man who presented with a 3.

Background And Objectives: The reasons behind the removal of the biopsy tract in osteosarcomas are not well known, and studies about tumor seeding in the biopsy tract have generated conflicting results. This study is designed to evaluate the presence and possible clinical significance of tumor cell seeding in the biopsy tract of osteosarcomas.

Methods: We prospectively evaluated 55 cases of osteosarcomas for tumor cell seeding and other clinical and pathologic prognostic parameters.

Clear cell sarcoma-like tumor of the gastrointestinal tract (CCSLGT) is a rare and relatively recently described entity. Here, we report a CCSLGT arising in the ileum of 28-year-old man. Histologically, the tumor composed of uniform, epithelioid or spindle cells that have eosinophilic cytoplasm and round, vesicular nucleus with single prominent nucleolus arranged in nests.

Objective: As there is continuing disagreement among the observers on the differential diagnosis between the epithelial changes/lesions and neoplasms of the gallbladder, this multicentre study was planned in order to assess the rate of the epithelial gallbladder lesions in Turkey and to propose microscopy and macroscopy protocols.

Material And Method: With the participation of 22 institutions around Turkey that were included in the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Study Group, 89,324 cholecystectomy specimens sampled from 2003 to 2016 were retrospectively evaluated. The numbers of adenocarcinomas, dysplasias, intracholecystic neoplasms/adenomas, intestinal metaplasias and reactive atypia were identified with the review of pathology reports and the regional and countrywide incidence rates were presented in percentages.
