Among a large sample of youth (9-10 years old at baseline) from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study® (n = 11,661) we modeled trajectories of psychopathology over three years and associated risk and protective factors. Growth mixture modeling characterized latent classes with distinct psychopathology trajectories. Results indicated four different internalizing trajectories: a high-decreasing class, a moderate-decreasing class, a moderate-increasing class, and a low-stable class.

Background: Interpreting the pathogenicity of genetic variants associated with rare diseases is a laborious and time-consuming endeavour. To streamline the diagnostic process and lighten the burden of variant interpretation, it is crucial to automate variant annotation and prioritization. Unfortunately, currently available variant interpretation tools lack a unified and comprehensive workflow that can collectively assess the clinical significance of these types of variants together: small nucleotide variants (SNVs), small insertions/deletions (INDELs), copy number variants (CNVs) and structural variants (SVs).

Objective: In the United States, ursodiol is commercially available as solid dosage forms, which represents a problem for children who cannot swallow capsules or tablets. There is a lack of an age-appropriate formulation for ursodiol, and the extemporaneous preparation of an oral suspension with an extended beyond-use-date (BUD) may represent a good therapeutic alternative for the pediatric population. However, all pharmacists need validated stability studies to prepare oral liquids with high quality and safety.

  • Cutaneous confocal microscopy (CCCM) is a technique that allows for detailed imaging of the skin at a cellular level, and this study tested a remote version (Remote-CCM) to enhance access to skin cancer diagnoses.
  • In the study, 201 lesions were assessed, with Remote-CCM showing a sensitivity of 89% for detecting skin malignancies and a specificity of 64%, effectively reducing unnecessary biopsies in 90% of benign cases.
  • The findings suggest that while Remote-CCM is accurate and can lower biopsy rates, it may not be suitable for potential cases of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), indicating a need for follow-up on uncertain melanoc

Chinese American youth as a group are often labeled as "model minorities." Yet, this label ignores the vast heterogeneity within Chinese Americans and implies that they are immune to environmental stressors. Using an 8-year longitudinal study of 444 (54% female; initial = 13-year-old) Chinese American adolescents, we identified two (well- vs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how bilingualism affects cognitive development among Mexican-origin bilingual youth who act as language brokers for their immigrant parents.
  • It explores the relationship between discriminatory experiences and cognitive control, specifically focusing on attentional control and inhibition in the context of their brokering activities.
  • Findings suggest that while discrimination does not directly impact cognitive control, its effects vary based on the youth's brokering experiences—less discrimination is linked to better cognitive control in those with positive bilingual experiences.

Trained immunity is characterized by epigenetic and metabolic reprogramming in response to specific stimuli. This rewiring can result in increased cytokine and effector responses to pathogenic challenges, providing nonspecific protection against disease. It may also improve immune responses to established immunotherapeutics and vaccines.

Although neighborhood contexts serve as upstream determinants of health, it remains unclear how these contexts "get under the skin" of Mexican-origin youth, who are disproportionately concentrated in highly disadvantaged yet co-ethnic neighborhoods. The current study examines the associations between household and neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES), neighborhood racial-ethnic and immigrant composition, and hair cortisol concentration (HCC)-a physiological index of chronic stress response-among Mexican-origin adolescents from low-income immigrant families in the United States. A total of 297 (54.

  • Monoallelic HMBS variants cause acute intermittent porphyria (AIP), while biallelic variants may lead to a less understood condition called HMBS-related leukoencephalopathy.
  • An 8-year-old girl exhibited symptoms such as hypotonia, vision issues, and abnormal brain activity, prompting genetic testing that initially pointed to a different variant before identifying a homozygous HMBS variant.
  • This case highlights that HMBS-related leukoencephalopathy can occur without classic porphyria symptoms, expanding the understanding of this genetic disease's presentation.

While the neural mechanisms underpinning the perception of muscularity are poorly understood, recent progress has been made using the psychophysical technique of visual adaptation. Prolonged visual exposure to high (low) muscularity bodies causes subsequently viewed bodies to appear less (more) muscular, revealing a recalibration of the neural populations encoding muscularity. Here, we use visual adaptation to further elucidate the tuning properties of the neural processes underpinning muscle perception for the upper and lower halves of the body.
