The possibility of cyanoacetohydrazide usage as a novel derivatizing agent is demonstrated in the presented article, and a comparison with hydroxylamine as the most commonly used reagent is provided. Optimal conditions for steroid derivatization with cyanoacetohydrazide are provided. According to the collected data, the maximum yield of derivatives was observed at pH 2.

The main treatment option of prolactin-secreting pituitary adenomas is dopamine agonist therapy, which demonstrates prolactin level normalizing and reducing the size of an adenoma in the majority of cases. However, significant amount of patients - about 20% - poorly responds even to high doses of dopamine agonists that is explained by the resistance to therapy. The occurrence of pharmacodynamic characteristics is one of the causes responsible for the development of resistance to typical therapy.

Background: findings from the previously conducted studies indicate altered regulatory mechanisms of calcium and vitamin D metabolism in obese patients and a role for bariatric surgery in regulating vitamin D metabolism; however, the available data is controversial and does not provide an adequate understanding of the subject.

Methods: we evaluated serum parameters of vitamin D and mineral metabolism (vitamin D metabolites (25(OH)D, 25(OH)D, 1,25(OH)D, 3-epi-25(OH)D, and 24,25(OH)D), vitamin D-binding protein (DBP), free 25(OH)D, fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23), parathyroid hormone (PTH), total calcium, albumin, phosphorus, creatinine, magnesium) in 30 patients referred for bariatric surgery in comparison with 30 healthy volunteers of similar age, sex and baseline 25(OH)D. Patients were also followed up with repeated laboratory assessments 3 months and 6 months after surgery.

By exposure of α-fluorinated benzophenones to McMurry reaction conditions, we have observed the remarkable formation of 9,10-diphenylanthracene derivatives. This unexpected transformation necessitates the cleavage of the exceptionally stable aromatic C-F bond under mild McMurry conditions. In this work, the condensation of several related fluorinated benzo- and acetophenones has been investigated, which allow us to propose a domino-like fusion mechanism for this unusual transformation.

A series of novel highly soluble double-caged [60]fullerene derivatives were prepared by means of lithium-salt-assisted [2+3] cycloaddition. The bispheric molecules feature rigid linking of the fullerene spheres through a four-membered cycle and a pyrrolizidine bridge with an ester function CO R (R=n-decyl, n-octadecyl, benzyl, and n-butyl; compounds 1 a-d, respectively), as demonstrated by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Cyclic voltammetry studies revealed three closely overlapping pairs of reversible peaks owing to consecutive one-electron reductions of fullerene cages, as well as an irreversible oxidation peak attributed to abstraction of an electron from the nitrogen lone-electron pair.

Photoinduced electron transfer from fullerene onto the diiodide component effects dissociative formation of alkyl radicals RI subsequently consumed by C to give the principal detectable radical intermediate CRI. Experimentally established second-order kinetics with respect to the fullerene concentration evidence that fullerene plays its two roles of photocatalyst and reactant in a decoupled fashion, which suggests its catalytic ability to be of potential use in more complex photochemical systems.
