Novel anionic cyclometalated Pt(ii) square-planar complexes NBu4[(C^N)PtII(S^S)], containing 2-phenylpyridine H(PhPy), 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-pyridine H(F2PhPy) and benzo[h]quinoline H(Bzq), respectively, as a cyclometalated ligand and the dianionic 1,2-benzenedithiolate (Thio)2- fragment as an (S^S) ligand, were synthesised. By the simple addition of an equivalent of (Thio)2- to the NBu4[(C^N)PtII(Thio)] complexes, octahedral anionic NBu4[(C^N)PtIV(Thio)2] analogues were obtained, representing, to the best of our knowledge, the first examples of Pt(iv) anionic cyclometalated complexes. The molecular structures of the obtained complexes in the case of the NBu4[(Bzq)PtII(Thio)] and the NBu4[(Bzq)PtIV(Thio)2] complexes were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

Background: Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) continues to be a major public health challenge with suboptimal treatment outcomes including well-documented treatment-related toxicities. We compared the cost-effectiveness of bedaquiline (BDQ) containing regimens with injectable containing regimens (short-course regimen [SCR] and long-course regiman [LCR]) in India, Russia, and South Africa.
Methods: The analysis evaluated the direct costs of DR-TB treatment which included drugs, hospitalization, injectable-related adverse event costs, and other costs.
Objectives: The interfacial conditions occurring during light-curing procedures of resin-based composites (RBCs) influence their surface properties and therefore the biological behavior of the material. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of different surface curing conditions on in vitro biofilm formation by Streptococcus mutans and mixed oral microflora, in the presence or absence of surface salivary pre-conditioning.
Methods: Two nanohybrid RBCs and four interfacial curing conditions (open air, argon, nitrogen and glycerin) were evaluated.
Background: The optimal treatment for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) is controversial. There is increasing evidence that, in selected cases, minimally invasive transoral surgery can offer improved functional outcomes, with equivalent oncologic outcomes, compared to chemoradiotherapy.
Aims: We report the outcomes of transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) for treatment of OPSCC at our institution.
Introduction: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a disease with increased left ventricular (LV) wall thickness not solely explained by abnormal loading conditions, with great heterogeneity regarding clinical expression and prognosis. The aim of the present study was to collect data on HCM patients from different centres across the country, in order to assess the general characteristics and therapeutic choices in this population.
Methods: Between December 2014 and April 2017, 210 patients from 11 Romanian Cardiology centres were enrolled in the National Registry of HCM.
Axon degeneration and disruption of neuromuscular junctions (NMJs) are key events in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) pathology. Although the disease's etiology is not fully understood, it is thought to involve a non-cell-autonomous mechanism and alterations in RNA metabolism. Here, we identified reduced levels of miR126-5p in presymptomatic ALS male mice models, and an increase in its targets: axon destabilizing Type 3 Semaphorins and their coreceptor Neuropilins.

TFETs take advantage of quantum mechanical tunneling hence exploit a different current control mechanism compared to standard MOSFETs. In this review, we describe state-of-the-art development of TFET both in terms of performances and of materials integration and we identify the main remaining technological challenges such as heterojunction defects and oxide/channel interface traps causing trap-assisted-tunneling (TAT).

Materials And Methods: A previously compiled database on the spectral reflectance of healthy keratinized gingiva was used for optimization. Coverage Error (CE) and Maximal Error (ME) were optimized using CIELAB and CIEDE2000 color difference formulas.
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are key regulators of skeletal development, growth, and repair. Although BMP signaling is required for synovial joint formation and is also involved in preserving joint function after birth, the role of specific BMP ligands in adult joint homeostasis remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to define the role of Bmp2 in the morphogenesis and maintenance of the knee joint.

Materials And Methods: Each of the 60 pairs of simulated human gingiva was displayed on a calibrated monitor, together with three pairs of upper central incisors of different lightness. The color of gingiva left and right from the midline was compared.
Eyes absent (EYA) proteins are unusual proteins combining in a single polypeptide chain transactivation, threonine phosphatase, and tyrosine phosphatase activities. They play pivotal roles in organogenesis and are involved in a variety of physiological and pathological processes including innate immunity, DNA damage repair or cancer metastasis. The molecular targets of EYA tyrosine phosphatase activity are still elusive.

In the proposed approach, a matching condition is fulfilled between a trained-polycrystalline PZT capacitor and the tunnel FET (TFET) gate capacitance fabricated on a strained silicon-nanowire technology. We report a non-hysteretic switch configuration by combining a homojunction TFET and a negative capacitance effect booster, suitable for logic applications, for which the on-current is increased by a factor of 100, the transconductance by 2 orders of magnitude, and the low swing region is extended.

These were to be evaluated for their chemical and mechanical properties, as well for antibacterial and antibiofilm activity. Samples were incorporated in commercial dental resin material and the degree of monomer conversion, mechanical strength, and water contact angle were tested to characterize the effect of the nanoparticles on resin material.

We review recent progress on the long-time regularity of solutions of the Cauchy problem for the water waves equations, in two and three dimensions. We begin by introducing the free boundary Euler equations and discussing the local existence of solutions using the paradifferential approach. We then describe in a unified framework, using the Eulerian formulation, global existence results for three- and two-dimensional gravity waves, and our joint result (with Deng and Pausader) on global regularity for the gravity-capillary model in three dimensions.

All three Bacillus species displayed strong yet distinctive magnetic properties arising from differences in manganese quantity and valency. Manganese ions were found to accumulate both within the spore core as well as being associated with the surface of the spore.

Background: Ultrasound imaging devices are becoming popular in clinical and teaching settings, but there is no systematic information on their use in medical education. We conducted a systematic review of hand-held ultrasound (HHU) devices in undergraduate medical education to delineate their role, significance, and limitations.
Methods: We searched Cochrane, PubMed, Embase, and Medline using the strategy: [(Hand-held OR Portable OR Pocket OR "Point of Care Systems") AND Ultrasound] AND (Education OR Training OR Undergraduate OR "Medical Students" OR "Medical School").
Junctions between n-type semiconductors of different electron affinity show rectification if the junction is abrupt enough. With the advent of 2D materials, we are able to realize thin van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures based on a large diversity of materials. In parallel, strongly correlated functional oxides have emerged, having the ability to show reversible insulator-to-metal (IMT) phase transition by collapsing their electronic bandgap under a certain external stimulus.

Two series of novel NBu salts of anionic cyclometallated Pt(ii) complexes were synthesized and fully characterized. These highly luminescent compounds (NBu[(C^N)Pt(O^N)] and NBu[(C^N)Pt(O^O)]) are incorporated as testing examples of cyclometallating ligands 2-phenylpyridine (PhPy), 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-pyridine (FPhPy) and 2-thienylpyridine (ThPy), and a benzo[h]quinoline (Bzq) fragment. All complexes display a square-planar coordination sphere, wherein the "(C^N)Pt" fragment is completed either by an O^N orotate (Ort) or an O^O tetrabromocatecholate (Cat) ligand.
