Introduction: Radioactive iodine (RAI) has been utilized for nearly 80 years in treating both hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer, and it continues to play a central role in the management of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) today. Recently, the use of RAI therapy for indolent, low-risk DTC has generated considerable debate. This case-control study evaluated the therapeutic response in DTC patients, comparing outcomes between those who received RAI therapy and those who did not.

Aim: The aim of this retrospective study was to identify the clinical, radiological, and histological characteristics of patients diagnosed with osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) and treated at the Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery Clinic of the Emergency Clinical County Hospital of Targu Mures between 2017 and 2022. The study aimed to analyze correlations between patient characteristics, particularly their history of bone modifying agent use or local radiotherapy during cancer treatment, in order to identify specific patient profiles that could aid in evaluating treatment response and guide individualized treatment strategies.

Sunitinib is commonly used in the treatment of patients with renal cell carcinoma and is associated with serious side-effects. We present the first report of a recurrent submandibular fistula in a patient treated with sunitinib. A 68-year-old man was referred to our clinic for a cutaneous fistula situated on the right side of his lower jaw.

Predictors of mortality for patients with hip fracture: a study of the nationwide 1-year records of 24,950 fractures in Romania.

Introduction: Acromegaly is a rare chronic endocrine disorder that can lead to significant quality of life (QoL) impairment and persistent symptomatology in both biochemically uncontrolled as well as in cured or controlled patients. Introduction: Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is fundamental in the pre-operative assessment of thyroid nodules. However, the shining success of thyroid FNA is occasionally eclipsed by false positive (FP) cytological diagnoses. We describe our experience regarding FP cytological diagnoses and present a literature review concerning FP rates.

Background: Pediatric obesity continues to remain a serious health concern which has significantly increased the morbidity risk in adulthood. Recent studies have analyzed the impact of the two adipokines, RBP4 (retinol binding protein 4) and STRA6 (stimulated by retinoic acid 6) in pediatric obese subjects with contradictory results.

Methods: An observational study was conducted in the Pediatric and Endocrinology Departments, Targu-Mures, Romania, including 213 children between 5-17 years of age, divided into two groups according to body mass index (BMI) standard deviation score (SDS): case (overweight or obese) and control (normal SDS).

The influence of Visfatin, RBP-4 and insulin resistance on bone mineral density in women with treated primary osteoporosis.

Introduction: The impact of the two adipokines, visfatin and retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP-4) on bone mineral density (BMD) has been analysed in various studies with conflicting results. Visfatin is highly expressed in visceral fat with stimulatory effect on osteoblast proliferation and inhibition on osteoclast formation, while RBP-4 acts as a transporter protein for retinol, associated with changes in insulin sensitivity, independent of obesity, with no consensus on its effect on bone metabolism. We evaluated the relationship between serum concentrations of visfatin, RBP-4, markers of insulin resistance and current BMD in treated postmenopausal osteoporosis (PO).

Hypercalcaemic Crisis Due to Primary Hyperparathyroidism: Report of Two Cases.

Introduction: A hypercalcaemic crisis, also called para thyrotoxicosis, hyper parathyroid crisis or parathyroid storm, is a complication of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and an endocrinology emergency that can have dramatic or even fatal consequences if it is not recognised and treated in time.

Case Presentation: Two cases presented in the emergency department with critical hypercalcaemic symptoms and severe elevation of serum calcium and parathyroid hormone levels, consistent with a hypercalcaemic crisis. The first case, a 16-year-old female patient, had imaging data that highlighted a single right inferior parathyroid adenoma and a targeted surgical approach was used.

Aim: High-quality national representative data on obesity in Romanian children are needed to shape public health policies. To provide a unified data landscape on national prevalence, trends and other factors associated with underweight, overweight, and obesity in Romanian children aged 6-19 years, across the last decade (2006-2015).

Methods: Using a common protocol, we selected published and unpublished studies that measured Romanian children in schools between 2006 and 2015.

Subtotal parathyroidectomy versus total parathyroidectomy with autotransplant in secondary hyperparathyroidism — a single-centre prospective cohort of 43 patients.

Introduction: The need for parathyroidectomy remains high in the group of patients on long-term dialysis with medically refractory secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT). We aim to compare the results after subtotal parathyroidectomies (sPtx) and total parathyroidectomies with autotransplant (tPtx + AT) performed for sHPT at a single referral centre.

Surgical reconstruction of the genitalia in a 3-year-old infant with a 46XX karyotype: case report.

Aim: The aim of our study was to test the feasibility of High Resolution Melting (HRM) analysis for detection of BRAF V600E mutation in various types of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) specimens from patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).

Materials And Methods: We analyzed fresh thyroid aspirates and smears from eight cases of PTC: three classic PTCs (CPTC), three follicular variant of PTCs (FVPTC), one tall cell, and one oncocytic variant of PTC. DNA extraction was performed using a MasterPure purification kit.

Thyroid nodule with Hashimoto thyroiditis in childhood - a challenging experience.

Fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) of the thyroid, although not perfect, is considered currently the best preoperative method in establishing malignancy in a thyroid nodule. We report the case of an 8-year-old girl with a thyroid mass in the right thyroid lobe. Endocrine investigations revealed subclinical hypothyroidism and high titer of anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies.
