The most frequent prostate diseases depending on age are prostatitis in young men, benign prostate hypertrophy in men over 50 years old, and prostate cancer (PCa) in elderly patients. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the role of inflammation in the progression of prostate diseases. We used clinical and paraclinical techniques for the positive diagnosis [serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) determination, we performed transrectal ultrasound to asses the prostate volume and prostate biopsy or transurethral resection of the prostate, where it was imposed].

Background/aim: Chloride intracellular channel 1 (CLIC1) represents a promising target for personalized therapy. Our aim was to assess CLIC1 expression in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (cc RCC) and identify its possible prognostic role.
Materials And Methods: Fifty cases of cc RCC were evaluated and selected for immunohistochemistry.
This is the first study investigating the clinical relevance of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) in genomic DNA from white blood cells (WBC) in the context of prostate cancer (PCa) and other prostate pathologies. Using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, we identified significantly different distributions of patients with low and elevated 5hmC content in WBC DNA across controls and patients with prostate cancer (PCa), atypical small acinar proliferation (ASAP), and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The measured values were within the normal range for most PCa patients, while the latter category was predominant for ASAP.

At the moment of second hospital admission, the patient was found somnolent and confused at home, with traumatic signs of biting of the tongue and urine emission. A couple days after admission, our patient became alert and presented hypersexuality, hypermetamorphosis, increased oral tendency, behavior changes including apathy with loss of anger and fear, and a very increased appetite, transient visual agnosia and right-left disorientation.

She was admitted to the Urology Clinic of the Emergency County Hospital of Arad, Romania, on November 11, 2015, after previously being diagnosed with stage IIIA cervical cancer in December 2014 and undergoing radio and chemotherapy and laparotomy for staging. At the moment of hospital admission, the patient suffered from fever and right lumbar pain, she was also diagnosed with grade IV right ureterohydronephrosis.

Patients And Methods: We studied 120 patients with mild or moderate LUTS induced by BPH, maximal urinary flow (Q(max)) <15 ml with a voided volume ≥150 ml, prostate-specific antigen <4 ng/ml, and residual urinary volume <150 ml, treated daily for 24 months with one capsule of 320 mg ethanolic extract of Serenoa repens.
Results: Statistically significant improvements in the International Prostate Symptom Score (5.
There were studied 130 patients with Ta, T1 and T2 transitional cell carcinomas of the urinary bladder, all treated by transurethral resection. After transurethral resection the follow-up was performed in 48 cases by cystoscopy and urine cytology and in 82 cases by cytology alone. In the first group there were 27 recurrences; cystoscopy failed to identify recurrences in 3 cases and cytology in one of them; all 3 patients with apparently false positive cytology recurred at 4, 9 and 11 months from the cytodiagnosis.

Samples of voided urine were taken from all cases and direct smears fixed by drying were stained by rapid blue polychrome-tanin Drăgan method Cytological results were compared with endoscopical and pathological findings. The overall rate of real positive results was 91.

Samples of voided urine and washing of the upper urinary tract were taken, and dried smears were stained with blue polychrome-tanin method. In all cases, the diagnosis was evaluated intraoperatively and cytologic results were compared with pathological ones.

Fourteen patients with total cystectomy and sigmoidian ureterostomy, 10 with cutaneous ureterostomy and 6 with substitution bladder were studied from the cytologic point of view; from all patients samples of voided urine, urethral and neobladder washing were taken and smears stained with blue polychrom-tanin Drăgan; the smears which belong to the last group were cytochemically investigated, too. From morphohistochemical point of view biopsies taken from cases with recurrences and one case with substitution bladder which died in the 10th day after surgery were studied. The cytologic study revealed two recurrences: one urethral and one at the pelvis level at 18 and respectively 4 months from total cystectomy, both being transitional cell carcinoma.

The authors have investigated the cyto-histologic correlation in 146 patients with primary urinary bladder tumours, and the causes which favor the false negative results. The authors found malignant cells in 92% of all cases, and stress the optimal conditions for the cytological investigation. It is considered that the study of the urinary sediment could replace successfully urinary bladder washing for the cytological surveillance of the patients operated for urinary bladder tumours.

The authors preferred a bilateral subcostal incision sectioning the insertions of both abdominals, that was prolonged in the para-rectal region on the right or on the left, according to case, into the vicinity of the femural arcade. In this group of 51 cases 8 explorations of the inferior cava were performed and in one case total resection of the abdominal cava was carried out.

Renal ultrasonography was performed in 40 patients. Complex exploration was carried out in 12 patients with renal tumours, such as: urography, renal scintigrams, renal arteriography, ultrasonography and cavography. Laminography was proved to be an useful method in the positive and differential diagnosis of renal tumours, especially of cystic ones.
