Herein, we describe an unusual case of cystoscope damage during a planned laser cystolithotripsy in a 65-year-old male with a previous history of radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer and subsequent serial urethral dilations for bladder neck contracture. Upon crossing the penile urethra without exerting significant pressure, we noticed the cystoscope's distal metallic tip detachment. Therefore, we re-introduced another 22Fr cystoscope and removed the broken part with alligator forceps.

Non-muscle invasive bladder cancer accounts for the majority of new bladder cancer diagnoses, and endoscopic transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) represents the standard-of-care. Although a relatively safe and common procedure, TURBT is often hampered by the questionable quality of resection. The evolution of surgical techniques has brought en bloc resection of bladder tumor (ERBT) to the forefront.

Introduction: The quality of the initial transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT) plays a key role in accurate local staging thus affecting treatment decision-making and disease prognosis. TURBT is still the gold standard for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). However, en bloc resection of bladder tumors (ERBT) gradually expanded as a promising alternative to TURBT, aiming to overcome certain inherent limitations of conventional resection.

Background: One of the main factors in response to hypoxia in the tumor microenvironment is the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) pathway. Although its role in other solid tumors, particularly renal cell carcinoma, has been sufficiently elucidated, it remains elusive in prostate cancer. The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression of main proteins involved in this pathway and determine the correlation of the results with clinicopathological outcomes of patients with prostate cancer.

Purpose: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the commonest non-cutaneous malignancy worldwide and the second cause of cancer death among males in the USA. Approval of the new androgen receptor axis-targeted (ARAT) agents (abiraterone acetate, enzalutamide, apalutamide, and darolutamide) has altered the course of advanced PCa. We aimed to assess the endocrine and metabolic adverse events associated with treatment using ARAT compounds.

Introduction: Hypoxia inducible factors (HIF) and prolyl hydroxylase domain (PHD) enzymes play a central role in tumor progression in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). However, there are currently no data regarding the behavior of this pathway (HIF/PHD) in a large number of benign renal tumors, the oncocytomas. The aim of the present study was to compare the expression levels of these factors between ccRCC and oncocytoma tumors.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relative mRNA expression levels of genes involved in the hypoxia inducible factor (HIF) signalling pathway in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and to analyse their associations with clinicopathological parameters and survival outcomes. Reverse transcription-quantitative PCR was used to quantify the mRNA expression levels of HIF-1α, HIF-2α, prolyl hydroxylase (PHD)1, PHD2 and PHD3 in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumour tissue samples from 41 patients with RCC, including 33 cases of clear cell RCC (ccRCC). FFPE samples of corresponding adjacent normal kidney tissues were used as a comparison.

Current guidelines suggest that treatment of varicocele should be considered in patients with clinically palpable disease and abnormal semen parameters. However, the clinicians are often challenged with the decision whether to treat varicocele in patients with testicular pain or low testosterone levels. Moreover, varicocele is highly associated with DNA fragmentation due to the oxidative stress and it has been demonstrated that surgical repair of varicocele ameliorates oxidative stress markers and consequently the sperm DNA integrity.

While cancer, and especially testicular cancer and Hodgkin's disease, affects male fertility in many ways, the current increase of survival of male cancer patients of reproductive age or earlier has emerged as a new challenge to their subsequent ability to father children. Cancer treatments, including surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, can have a transitory as well as a permanent detrimental impact on male fertility. Gonadotoxic effects and the length of time for sperm recovery after radiotherapy depends not only on initial semen quality, but also on gonadal dosage and the delivery method after chemotherapy, on the type of regimens and dosages and on the spermatogenesis phase that each drug impacts.
