Outcomes of surgery and radioiodine treatment for neck recurrence in papillary thyroid cancer.

Purpose: Persistent/recurrent disease in the neck is frequent in patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). The goal of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the reoperation and radioiodine (RAI) treatment for persistent/recurrent disease after the initial treatment.

Methods: A total of 30 patients (13 M/17 F) with PTC were enrolled in this study.

Relationship between ABO blood groups and head and neck cancer among Greek patients.

Purpose: We examined the association of ABO blood groups with the different types of head and neck cancers.

Methods: 195 diagnosed cases and 801 controls were selected from a Greek tertiary cancer center. Information regarding type of head and neck cancer and ABO blood group was collected and registered.

Postsurgical Hypoparathyroidism: A Systematic Review.

This article reviews epidemiology, risk factors and treatment modalities of postsurgical hypoparathyroidism (PHypo). PHypo occurs after total thyroidectomy due to injury of parathyroid glands and/or their blood supply or after parathyroidectomy. PHypo results in hypocalcemia because parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion is impaired and cannot mobilize calcium from bone, reabsorb calcium from the distal nephron and stimulate renal 1α-hydroxylase activity.
