Objectives: Sudden death in multiple system atrophy (MSA) is caused by decreased serotonergic innervation, but there is no routine test method for this decrease. In addition to dopamine transporters, iodine-123-labelled N-(3-fluoropropyl)-2β-carbomethoxy-3β-(4-iodophenyl) nortropane (I-FP-CIT) binds serotonin transporters (SERTs). We noted a binding potential to quantify the total quantity of I-FP-CIT binding to its receptors.

The environmental impact of methane, a greenhouse gas emitted from ruminants, is a pressing issue and methods to control methane emissions from ruminants are being investigated worldwide. In this study, we investigated the effects of the administration of spent coffee grounds (SCG) on methane production in the rumen in two cows. In the control condition (days 1 and 2), the cows were fed a basic diet twice daily (roughage and concentrate), and in the SCG condition (days 1 and 2) sequentially, the cows were fed the same basic diet and administered SCG into the rumen twice daily.

Histone modification is a cellular process for transcriptional regulation. In herbivore-damaged plants, activation of genes involved in defence responses is required for antiherbivore properties, but little is known about how the chromatin remodelling system is involved. In Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) plants responding to Spodoptera litura larvae, HAC1 and HDA6, a histone acetyltransferase and a histone deacetylase, respectively, were found here to be involved in histone H3 (Lys9; H3K9) acetylation/deacetylation at the promoter region of the plant defensin gene PDF1.

Seven new polyketides [moringols I-VII (1-7)], a new alkaloid [moringamine I (8)], and seven known compounds (9-15) were isolated from the fungus Curvularia moringae JKYM-KR4. The planar chemical structures and relative configurations of the new compounds were elucidated by high-resolution mass spectrometry, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, and DP4+ analysis using the calculated C NMR chemical shifts. For moringols I and II (1 and 2), the planar chemical structures and relative configurations were confirmed using X-ray crystallography.

: Breast-specific positron emission tomography (PET) provides higher sensitivity and spatial resolution than whole-body PET/CT, but it has a blind area. Mammary glands near the chest wall sometimes present outside the field of view (FOV). A newer, dedicated breast PET (dbPET) model has a cylindrical detector with a larger diameter than previous models, so it is expected to eliminate or reduce blind areas.

Background: Bone marrow metastasis (BMM) of gastric cancer (GC), which is the most common cause of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) among solid tumors, has a poor prognosis. Studies on prognostic improvement beyond one year in patients with GC with BMM are limited. This is the first report of a patient who survived over three years after 30 months of S-1 plus oxaliplatin (SOX) therapy for GC with BMM.

Post-stroke gait disorders involve altered lower limb kinematics. Recently, the endpoint of the lower limb has been used as a control variable to understand gait kinematics better. In a cross-sectional study of sixty-seven post-stroke patients, the limb extension angle and effective limb length during gait were used as input variables with a mixed Gaussian model-based probabilistic clustering approach to identify five distinct clusters.

The imbalance in the phosphorylation and the dephosphorylation of proteins leads to various diseases. Therefore, in vivo, the functions of protein kinases and protein phosphatases are strictly regulated. Mg/Mn-dependent protein phosphatase PPM1M has been implicated in immunity and cancer; however, the regulation mechanism remains unknown.

Objectives: As less autopsies are performed, the need for postmortem computed tomography (PMCT) as an alternative is increasing. It is important to know how postmortem changes over time are reflected on CT, in order to improve the diagnostic capability of PMCT and replace forensic pathology evaluations such as time of death estimation.

Methods: In this study, we examined temporal changes on postmortem chest CT images of a rat model.

Background/aim: Most paratesticular liposarcomas (PLPSs) are well-differentiated liposarcomas (WDLPSs) with favourable prognoses. As such, the rare occurrence of PLPS often leads to its misdiagnosis as a hernia or hydrocele on physical examination. Curative resection of the tumour may not be possible in cases where PLPSs have transformed into dedifferentiated liposarcomas (DDLPSs) owing to a delay in diagnosis.

  • The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) is crucial for controlling blood pressure, making renin a key target for hypertension treatments.
  • Research on direct renin inhibitors (DRIs) has shown issues with pharmacokinetics and bioavailability, limiting options to mostly aliskiren.
  • This study presents a new type of DRI based on a 2-carbamoyl morpholine structure, which is effective in lowering blood pressure in experimental models without the typical binding sites used by previous DRIs.

Renin is the rate-limiting enzyme in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) which regulates blood pressure and renal function and hence is an attractive target for the treatment of hypertension and cardiovascular/renal diseases. However, the development of direct renin inhibitors (DRIs) with favorable oral bioavailability has been a longstanding challenge for many years. This problem was thought to be because most of the reported DRIs were peptide-like structures or nonpeptide-like structures with a molecular weight (MW) of > 600.
