Background: Pelvic lymph node dissection is a procedure performed in gastroenterological surgery, urology, and gynecology. However, due to discrepancies in the understanding of pelvic anatomy among these departments, cross-disciplinary discussions have not been easy. Recently, with the rapid spread of robotic surgery, the importance of visual information in understanding pelvic anatomy has become even more significant.

Article Synopsis
  • Some lyssaviruses, like the rabies virus, can cause serious neurological symptoms in humans, but most vaccines have only been tested against rabies.
  • In a study, researchers evaluated the effectiveness of rabbit serum from RABV vaccines and other lyssaviruses in neutralizing different strains, finding that RABV vaccines worked well against some strains but poorly against others.
  • The results suggest a need for new vaccines for lyssaviral infections since current ones aren't effective across all lyssavirus types.

Objectives: Although the standard falls prevention strategy is to identify and respond to patients with high-risk conditions, it remains unclear whether falls in patients with high fall risk account for most observed falls. In this study, fall risk and number of falls were calculated based on patients' motor and cognitive abilities, and the relationship between the two was examined.

Design: We conducted a retrospective cohort study.

Article Synopsis
  • Rabies is a severe neurological disease caused by lyssaviruses, with a focus on the rabies lyssavirus (RABV).
  • The study developed new serological neutralizing tests using vesicular stomatitis virus pseudotypes that mimic all 18 lyssavirus glycoproteins, revealing that current RABV vaccines are ineffective against most lyssaviruses.
  • The findings indicate that while some glycoproteins could provoke neutralizing antibodies across various lyssaviruses, this testing system could help create more effective, broad-protective vaccines in the future.

Article Synopsis
  • Low socioeconomic position (SEP) is linked to a higher risk of dementia, but the impact of SEP trajectory over a lifetime on brain volumes related to dementia is less understood.
  • A study of 428 older adults in Japan examined SEP at different life stages and found three trajectories: stable middle class, downward, and upward mobility.
  • Those with upward SEP mobility had larger hippocampal volumes compared to the stable middle class, suggesting that how SEP changes over a lifetime could influence brain health in later years.

The germanium-centred Lewis superacid Ge(pin) (1) was isolated as acetonitrile mono-adduct 1·MeCN and thoroughly characterized by NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography and quantum chemical calculations. Ion abstraction and NMR experiments revealed the hard as well as soft Lewis superacidic nature of 1·MeCN. The title compound readily activates hydrosilanes such as EtSiH, which is not feasible for its harder silicon homologue 2·MeCN, and even reacts with EtSiF.

We developed an optical time-of-flight measurement system using a time-resolved and mode-selective up-conversion single-photon detector for acquiring tomographic images of a mouse brain. The probe and pump pulses were spectrally carved from a 100-femtosecond mode-locked fiber laser at 1556 nm using 4f systems, so that their center wavelengths were situated at either side of the phase matching band separated by 30 nm. We demonstrated a sensitivity of 111 dB which is comparable to that of shot-noise-limited optical coherence tomography and an axial resolution of 57 μm (a refractive index of 1.
