Enzyme immuno assay (EIA) of estrogen receptor (ER) has confirmed the results of earlier investigations using steroid binding techniques, namely that ER is present at very low concentrations in samples from metastatic melanoma. Thirty-four of 61 samples (56%) were ER positive with EIA. The corresponding figures using isoelectric focusing (IF) for the steroid binding assay were 16 of these 61 samples (26%).

Forty of 306 patients (13 percent) underwent reoperation due to recurrent ulcer (25 patients), severe dyspepsia without proved recurrence (12 patients), and gastric stasis without recurrence (3 patients). In the first two groups, 16 patients had a second vagotomy and 17 underwent partial gastrectomy, 10 with gastroduodenostomy and 7 with gastrojejunostomy.

Three hundred and six (94 per cent) patients were followed up. No mortality was recorded after 326 primary and 50 reoperative procedures.

In the present paper a 39-year-old female with systemic reactive amyloidosis caused by a hepatocellular adenoma is described. The patient had a history of using contraceptive drugs.

The prevalence of metastases was 20% in the PLND group. The number of patients with complications in the PLND were 17/44 (39%) and in the TLND 39/64 (61%).

ER posivity (above 0.2 fmol/mg protein), as measured with isoelectric focusing on polyacrylamide gels, was found in 23 (70%) of the patients (range 0.

The 5- and 10-year cumulative recurrence rates were 11.6% and 16.

The aim of this study was to assess the clinical results after highly selective vagotomy (HSV) when used routinely at a district general hospital. A total of 229 patients with chronic duodenal or prepyloric ulcers was included in a 92 per cent complete follow-up 1-6 years after an elective HSV without drainage. There was no postoperative mortality, and the frequency of postoperative complicatons was low.
