Bruck syndrome is a rare, autosomal-recessive condition associated with features of both arthrogryposis and osteogenesis imperfecta. It is characterised by congenital large joint contractures with pterygia and bone fragility, leading to fractures and deformities, along with a short stature caused by progressive skeletal deformities. There are fewer than 50 described cases of Bruck syndrome in the literature, with no reported cases in pregnancy.

Marfan syndrome (MFS) is linked with adverse pregnancy events, one of the most significant being aortic dissection. We present a case of a woman with MFS with prior aortic root dilatation who opted for a Personalised External Aortic Root Support (PEARS). To date, she is only the fifth woman to have had this valve-sparing procedure prior to pregnancy.

Background: Pregnancies in women with sickle cell disease (SCD) are associated with a higher risk of sickle and pregnancy complications. Limited options exist for treating SCD during pregnancy. Unlabelled: Data from randomized controlled trials to guide antihypertensive agent choice for chronic hypertension in pregnancy are limited; this study aimed to compare labetalol and nifedipine, additionally assessing the impact of ethnicity on treatment efficacy. Pregnant women with chronic hypertension (12-27 weeks' gestation) were enrolled at 4 UK centers (August 2014 to October 2015). Open-label first-line antihypertensive treatment was randomly assigned: labetalol- (200-1800 mg/d) or nifedipine-modified release (20-80 mg/d).

The UK confidential enquiry into maternal deaths identified poor management of medical problems in pregnancy to be a contributory factor to a large proportion of indirect maternal deaths. Maternal (obstetric) medicine is an exciting subspecialty that encompasses caring for both women with pre-existing medical conditions who become pregnant, as well as those who develop medical conditions in pregnancy. Obstetrics and gynaecology trainees have some exposure to maternal medicine through their core curriculum and can then complete an advanced training skills module, subspecialise in maternal-fetal medicine or take time out to complete the Royal College of Physicians membership examination.

Objective: The long-term cardiovascular risk of preeclampsia is known to be significantly higher in women requiring preterm delivery before 37 weeks compared with those delivered at term. The aim of this study is to assess and compare maternal cardiac function and geometry in acute preterm and term preeclampsia.

Methods: This is a prospective case-control study of 27 preterm and 50 term preeclampsia and 104 matched controls assessed by conventional echocardiography and tissue Doppler imaging.
