Insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor RNA expression in hematopoietic stem cell transplanted patients does not correlate with graft-versus-host disease.

In vivo activated T lymphocytes exhibit altered expression of insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) compared to the naïve T lymphocyte pool. The objective of this study was to investigate the expression of IGF-1R RNA in CD4 and CD8 positive cells after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in patients with and without GVHD. For this purpose we isolated RNA from CD4 and CD8 positive cells, sorted with immunomagnetic beads.

Resection of pancreatic cancer normalizes the preoperative increase of tumor necrosis factor alpha gene expression.

Background: Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) appears to play a role in the cachexia and diabetes seen in patients with cancers. However, increased TNF-alpha is seen in some, but not all, of the cancer patients.

Methods: The mRNA transcripts of TNF-alpha and its receptors (TNF-RI and TNF-RII) were quantified in blood cells of pancreatic cancer patients, using competitive quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction.

Long-term kinetics of adult human antibody repertoires.

In healthy humans, antibody repertoires change during ontogeny and senescence. The dynamics of antibody repertoires among adults over a longer period of time in one and the same individual has, however, not been extensively studied. In this study we analysed peripheral blood samples from five healthy adults, taken over a period of 10 weeks and once 9 years later.
