Age, Sex, and Religious Beliefs Impact the Attitude towards Cord Blood Banking.

In this study, a self-administered questionnaire was used to assess opinions about stem cell research and cord blood banking. Three attitudes were examined: willingness to accept cord blood banking, willingness to accept embryonic stem cell research, and religious belief system. A total of 90 Wayne State University students enrolled in the study in response to an invitation posted on a web page for the university.

Adult mesenchymal stem cells and their potency in the cell-based therapy.

Recent advances in the field of regenerative medicines manifested the unique properties of stem cells including the ability of self-renewal and differentiation to make them available for their replacement in tissue injury. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are important tools in treating immune disorders and in tissue repair due to their multipotency, immunosuppressive properties, and production of cytokines or growth factors. MSC-mediated therapy is a fast-growing field that has proven safe and effective in the treatment of various degenerative diseases and tissue injuries.

Technical note: a histological technique for detecting the cryptic preservation of erythrocytes and soft tissue in ancient human skeletonized remains.

Bone samples from a Middle Bronze Age (ca., 1600-1300 BC) site were prepared for histological analysis. Preliminary results suggested that components of bone marrow remained preserved.
