Micro practices of coordination based on complex adaptive systems: user needs and strategies for coordinating public health in Denmark.

Introduction: Many highly formalised approaches to coordination poorly fit public health and recent studies call for coordination based on complex adaptive systems. Our contribution is two-fold. Empirically, we focus on public health, and theoretically we build on the patient perspective and treat coordination as a process of contingent, two-level negotiations of user needs.

LC-REHAB: randomised trial assessing the effect of a new patient education method--learning and coping strategies--in cardiac rehabilitation.

Background: Due to improved treatments and ageing population, many countries now report increasing prevalence in rates of ischemic heart disease and heart failure. Cardiac rehabilitation has potential to reduce morbidity and mortality, but not all patients complete. In light of favourable effects of cardiac rehabilitation it is important to develop patient education methods which can enhance adherence to this effective program.

[Gynaecological cancer patients' view on follow-up programmes differ from health professionals'].

Evidence shows that survival after low-stage gynaecological cancer is not improved by follow-up programmes. Using a qualitative approach this study explores reassurance in follow-up after cancer from both patients' and health professionals' viewpoints. Patients associated the purpose of follow-up with a guarantee of no recurrence of cancer.

Paradoxes of follow-up - health professionals' views on follow-up after surgical treatment in gynecological cancer.

Objective: Evidence now reveals that attending a follow-up program may not improve survival for low-stage gynecological cancer patients. The aim of this study was to explore health professionals' experiences with the follow-up programs and their views on follow-up in the future.

Methods: A qualitative approach was undertaken with semi-structured focus group interviews.

Patient perspectives on type 2 diabetes and medicine use during Ramadan among Pakistanis in Denmark.

Background: Type 2 diabetes is highly prevalent among people of Pakistani background. Studies show that adherence to medicines is complicated for people with type 2 diabetes in general. Also, studies indicate that many people with type 2 diabetes and Muslim background fast during the month of Ramadan without adequate counselling on how to adjust their medicines.

Life after gynecologic cancer--a review of patients quality of life, needs, and preferences in regard to follow-up.

Objective: This article reviews the literature on quality of life (QoL) of gynecologic cancer survivors, their needs and preferences regarding follow-up, and possible predictors of long-term QoL.

Methods: A systematic literature search was made in the following databases: MEDLINE (PubMed), Bibliotek.dk, CINAHL, Cochrane, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and SveMed+.

Diabetes prevalence and quality of diabetes care among Lebanese or Turkish immigrants compared to a native Danish population.

Objectives: To describe Type 2 diabetes prevalence and care among Turkish (T) and Lebanese (L) immigrants as compared to native Danes (DK) in the county of Aarhus.

Method: Data from The National Health Service Registry, The Regional Laboratory Database and The Danish National Hospital Registry were collected from 2000 through 2003 to identify and describe known diabetes in a background population of 244.426 citizens in the age group of 40-70 years living in the County of Aarhus.
