Community reintegration post-stroke in New Zealand: understanding the experiences of stroke survivors in the lower South Island.

Purpose: Optimal community reintegration is a key rehabilitation outcome post-stroke. This concept has been investigated in many countries but not qualitatively in New Zealand. We explored perceptions about community reintegration of stroke survivors living in southern New Zealand.

Sonographic anatomy of the pubic symphysis in healthy nulliparous women.

Pregnancy-related symphyseal pain is a condition commonly encountered by clinicians but its pathogenesis is poorly understood. The pubic symphysis is readily visualized with ultrasound, yet the normal sonographic anatomy of the joint has not been accurately documented. This study aimed to describe the anatomy of the pubic symphysis in healthy, nulliparous women using ultrasound.

Tumour cell lysate-loaded dendritic cell vaccine induces biochemical and memory immune response in castration-resistant prostate cancer patients.

Background: Recently, we produced a tumour antigen-presenting cells (TAPCells) vaccine using a melanoma cell lysate, called TRIMEL, as an antigen source and an activation factor. Tumour antigen-presenting cells induced immunological responses and increased melanoma patient survival. Herein, we investigated the effect of TAPCells loaded with prostate cancer cell lysates (PCCL) as an antigen source, and TRIMEL as a dendritic cell (DC) activation factor; which were co-injected with the Concholepas concholepas haemocyanin (CCH) as an adjuvant on castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) patients.

The adult human pubic symphysis: a systematic review.

The pubic symphysis is a unique joint consisting of a fibrocartilaginous disc sandwiched between the articular surfaces of the pubic bones. It resists tensile, shearing and compressive forces and is capable of a small amount of movement under physiological conditions in most adults (up to 2 mm shift and 1° rotation). During pregnancy, circulating hormones such as relaxin induce resorption of the symphyseal margins and structural changes in the fibrocartilaginous disc, increasing symphyseal width and mobility.

Colombo and the clitoris.

In 1559, the Italian anatomist Realdo Colombo (1515/6-1559) claimed to have "discovered" the clitoris. Closer scrutiny reveals that whilst he certainly emphasized the role of the clitoris in female sexuality, his claim to priority is unfounded. The clitoris had been known to Greek, Persian, and Arabic writers on medicine and surgery, albeit with misconceptions about its function.

Gross morphology of the vastus lateralis muscle: An anatomical review.

To understand the role of the vastus lateralis (VL) muscle in the pathogenesis of common knee disorders such as patellofemoral joint syndrome, knowledge of its anatomical structure is essential. The aim of this study was to review currently available information on the gross morphology of VL. A structured literature review was undertaken and 36 references, comprising 22 scientific papers and 14 anatomical textbooks, were included.

Measuring free-living physical activity in adults with and without neurologic dysfunction with a triaxial accelerometer.

Objective: To investigate the reliability, validity, and utility of a triaxial accelerometer to measure physical activity in the free-living environment in adults with and without neurologic dysfunction.

Design: Repeated-measures design.
