Oral mucositis (OM) is a major and common adverse reaction to cancer treatment, occurring in all patients who undergo radiation therapy or chemotherapy that includes the mucosal areas of the oral and oropharyngeal region. The pathophysiology of OM remains incompletely understood, and there are many unanswered questions about the risk factors for developing OM. Multidisciplinary clinicians and researchers must collaborate to better understand and expand treatment strategies for OM and other inflammatory conditions in oncology.

Background: Nanotechnology, a field bridging material science and biology, explores various applications. Silver nanoparticles, ranging from 1 nm to 100 nm, are commonly labeled as "silver," although some contain a substantial quantity of silver oxide owing to the heightened ratio of silver atoms on the surface compared to the bulk. This characteristic establishes silver as a prominent nanoparticulate material.

Background: Nanotechnology is the specialty associated with material science and biology, rather than a particular field. It entails the method of particles at nanoscale called Nanoparticles, wherein they have control over bulk macroscopic properties of the identical material. The "drug nanocarrier," selenium possesses strong antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-cancer as well as anti-inflammatory properties.

Mouthwash is the effective chemical plaque control mechanism being practiced globally. Teeth and tongue discoloration, a temporary change in taste perception, an increase in calculus deposits, a burning sensation, and genotoxicity of buccal epithelial cells are all possible side effects. This review evaluates the efficacy of chitosan mouthwash in comparison to chlorhexidine mouthwash in combating plaque accumulation and gingival inflammation.
