Purpose: To determine its cumulative incidence, identify the risk factors associated with Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE) development, and its impact clinical outcomes.
Materials And Methods: This multinational, multicentre, prospective cohort study from the ISARIC database. We used bivariate and multivariate logistic regressions to explore the risk factors related to MACE development and determine its impact on 28-day and 90-day mortality.
Background: Delirium is a common, yet underdiagnosed neuropsychiatric complication of intensive care unit (ICU) admission, associated with significant mortality and morbidity. Delirium can be difficult to diagnose, with gold standard assessments by a trained specialist being impractical and rarely performed. To address this, various tools have been developed, enabling bedside clinicians to assess for delirium efficiently and accurately.

We have previously reported an IPH incidence rate of 16% in Japan. Among possible reasons for this high incidence, ethnicity has been hypothesised to play a role.

We aimed to comprehensively assess different V-A ECMO parameters and their contribution to hemodynamic energy production and transfer through the device circuit.
Methods: We used the i-cor® ECMO circuit, which composed of Deltastream DP3 diagonal pump and i-cor® console (Xenios AG), the Hilite 7000 membrane oxygenator (Xenios AG), venous and arterial tubing and a 1 L soft venous pseudo-patient reservoir.
Differential hypoxaemia (DH) is common in patients supported by femoral veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-A ECMO) and can cause cerebral hypoxaemia. To date, no models have studied the direct impact of flow on cerebral damage. We investigated the impact of V-A ECMO flow on brain injury in an ovine model of DH.

Current animal models result in heterogenous cardiac injury and frequent episodes of refractory ventricular fibrillation. Thus, we aimed to develop an innovative, clinically relevant, and titratable model of severe cardiopulmonary failure.

Large animal models are developed to help understand physiology and build translational research projects. In order to better understand those experimental models, we conducted a systematic literature review of animal models combining heart failure and VA-ECMO.

They were updated because evidence from critical incident reporting systems continues to show that medication errors remain a major safety issue in anaesthesia, intensive care, emergency medicine and pain medicine, and there is an ongoing need for relevant up-to-date clinical guidance for practising anaesthesiologists. The recommendations are based on evidence wherever possible, with a focus on patient safety, and are primarily aimed at anaesthesiologists practising in Europe, although many will be applicable elsewhere.

Proximal angiographic embolization of the splenic injury after trauma is a widely accepted method with excellent success rate; however, possible complications may occur and has been described in the literature. Nevertheless, only a few case reports pertinent to clinically significant pancreatic tail necrosis after the SAE has been reported.

Treatment of patients suffering from severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) commonly involves sedation and mechanical ventilation during prolonged stay in the intensive care unit. Continuous EEG is often monitored in these patients to detect epileptic seizures. It has also been suggested that EEG has prognostic value regarding the outcome of the treatment.

Bradykinin is an inflammatory mediator that may contribute to cerebral oedema by increasing the permeability of the blood-brain barrier. We evaluated the safety and effectiveness of the non-peptide bradykinin B2 receptor antagonist Anatibant in the treatment of patients with traumatic brain injury.

A novel algorithm for the detection and tracking of rhythmic patterns in the EEG signal is presented. The algorithm includes the following steps: 1) linear filtering using symmetric impulse response, 2) calculation of the first intrinsic mode of the filter output and 3) calculation of instantaneous frequency and amplitude using the Hilbert transform. The linear filter is adapted according to the instantaneous frequency.

Intracardiac impedance can provide real-time hemodynamic information to automatically control the lower and upper rate limits of a rate-adaptive pacemaker. It is necessary to overcome a number of technical challenges to accomplish this within the constraints of an implantable device.

Increased platelet activation occurs in the cardiovascular disease states of stable angina pectoris and acute coronary syndromes. Also, cardiac surgery involving cardiopulmonary bypass is associated with extensive contact between blood and synthetic surfaces and leads to a strong activation of platelets.
