Certain medicinal plants utilized in the traditional ayurvedic system are poisonous when used raw, but are used following a detoxification process. The Ayurvedic Formulary of India (AFI) provides details about these detoxification (known as "sodhana") processes as per traditional procedures. This research endeavor aimed to uncover the fundamental principles underlying the detoxification approach applied to , commonly referred to as "swet chitrak", in which plumbagin is the primary toxic constituent.

The glaucoma treatment paradigm is in evolution. The topical medications-first approach is limited by significant barriers such as high rates of nonadherence and side effects including ocular surface disease. The era of interventional glaucoma has seen the development of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), procedural pharmaceuticals, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS).

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic, refractory disease caused by dysregulation of mucosal immune responses to the indigenous bacterial flora as well as genetic and environmental variables. Recently, there has been increasing interest towards the use of herbal medicines for the treatment of ulcerative colitis and the potential benefits could lie in their high patient acceptability, effectiveness, safety, and relatively low cost. It has been reported that Chebulic myrobalan (Terminalia chebula) exhibits anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties.

Introduction: Cancer is a prominent cause of death globally, triggered by both non-genetic and genetic alterations in genes influenced by various environmental factors. The tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ), specifically 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline serves as fundamental element in various alkaloids, prevalent in proximity to quinoline and indole alkaloids.

Area Covered: In this review, the therapeutic applications of THIQ derivatives as an anticancer agent from 2016 to 2024 have been examined.

Several harmful bacteria have evolved resistance to conventional antibiotics due to their extensive usage. FtsZ, a principal bacterial cell division protein, is considered as an important drug target to combat resistance. We identified a caffeoyl anilide derivative, (E)-N-(4-(3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)acryloyl)phenyl)-1-adamantylamide (compound 11) as a new antimicrobial agent targeting FtsZ.

Topical glaucoma medications have favorable safety and efficacy, but their use is limited by factors such as side effects, nonadherence, costs, ocular surface disease, intraocular pressure fluctuations, diminished quality of life, and the inherent difficulty of penetrating the corneal surface. Although traditionally these limitations have been accepted as an inevitable part of glaucoma treatment, a rapidly-evolving arena of minimally invasive surgical and laser interventions has initiated the beginnings of a reevaluation of the glaucoma treatment paradigm. This reevaluation encompasses an overall shift away from the reactive, topical-medication-first default and a shift toward earlier intervention with laser or surgical therapies such as selective laser trabeculoplasty, sustained-release drug delivery, and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery.

leaves are widely used as a spice and also have several biological activities. The major active constituents are carbazole alkaloids. Quantitation by HPLC or HPTLC requires pure marker compounds, whereas nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy can be used as a quantitative technique without the requirement of a pure marker compound.

A new HPLC-PDA method was developed and validated for simultaneous determination of five phenolic compounds (and - isomers of tiliroside, quercetin-3--β-D-glucoside, ellagic acid, kaempferol-3--β-D-glucoside and isorhamnetin-3--glucoside) in the leaves of D. Don. Of the five compounds, three (tiliroside, quercetin-3--β-D-glucoside and ellagic acid) were isolated and characterised by spectroscopy techniques.

The development of newer cisplatin analogs is constantly being investigated owing to its low solubility, poor pharmacokinetics, and dose-related toxicity. In order to address the limitations of current cisplatin therapy, the present study was undertaken. Cisplatin conjugation with an exopolysaccharide extracted from Lactobacillus gasseri (LG-EPS) showed remarkably enhanced and selective anticancer activity by targeting tumor cells overexpressing glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1).

Flavonoids, a class of polyphenolic secondary metabolites, are present in fruits, vegetables, beverages such as wine and tea abundantly. Flavonoids exhibit a diverse array of pharmacological activities, including anticancer activity, and are toxic to cancer cells but not harmful to healthy cells. Besides, humans and animals cannot synthesize flavonoids, which leads to a dramatic increase in the consumption of plant flavonoids.
