Article Synopsis
  • Imperforate Hymen (IH) is a rare congenital condition affecting about 1 in 2000 female births that requires surgical intervention, typically hymenotomy or hymenectomy.
  • The authors reported two IH cases with varying symptoms and introduced a virginity-preserving surgical technique to accommodate cultural sensitivities.
  • This procedure avoids the use of antibiotics and catheters, aiming to create an intact hymen while addressing both medical and social concerns for unmarried girls.

A recurrence of ovarian mucinous cysts is very rare. Over a period of 21 months, a 20-year-old patient had three laparotomies resulting initially in the removal of one ovary with a mucinous cystadenoma and two cystectomies for the same pathology, but ultimately leading to hysterectomy and salphingo-oopherectomy. Because mucinous tumors are usually benign and most of the time multilocular, management of young patients is challenging, especially in the case of recurrence.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate whether plasma lipoprotein(a) levels are higher in women with pre-eclampsia compared to healthy pregnant women and how these levels relate to the disease's severity.
  • Ninety-one women with pre-eclampsia (split into mild and severe cases) and 40 healthy pregnant women were analyzed for various blood parameters, including lipoprotein(a) and lipid levels.
  • The results showed no significant difference in lipoprotein(a) levels among the groups, suggesting it is not a key risk factor for pre-eclampsia, though elevated triglyceride levels might contribute to the condition.
