In recent years, significant progress has been made in understanding the biological and molecular pathways that regulate the effects of ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injuries. However, despite these developments, various pharmacological agents are still being tested to either protect against or mitigate the damage caused by the IR's harmful consequences. JWH133 is a CB2R-selective agonist and belongs to the class of Δ8-tetrahydrocannabinol.

Despite advances in diagnosis and treatment, breast cancer is still one of the three most common cancers in the world and a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Lipids play a role in many basic physiological pathways in cells, from regulating cell homeostasis to energy expenditure. As in many types of cancer, changes in lipid metabolism and their relationship have been reported in breast cancer.

We herein report the determination of the cytotoxic activity and expression profiles of some DNA repair genes of newly synthesized azomethines in the gastric cancer cell line (AGS). The studied novel compounds were synthesized by a condensation reaction and received compounds were characterized by H and C NMR spectroscopy methods. Furthermore, they were applied to the AGS cell line at eight different concentrations (0.

Objective: Although the etiopathogenesis of preeclampsia (PE) is unknown, evidence suggests that it may be associated with increased oxidative stress. Studies have shown that oxidative stress can affect DNA fragments called telomeres. However, the interactions of PE, oxidative stress, and telomere length are not clearly known.

Myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) is defined as stenosis of less than 50% or no stenosis on coronary angiography in a patient diagnosed with myocardial infarction. Telomere length is expressed by studies that it acts as a biomarker, especially for biological aging and cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether there is a relationship between circulating leukocyte telomere length (LTL) and serum lipid values in MINOCA patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on exploring how apilarnil could protect against kidney damage caused by sepsis, specifically induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), using 64 male rats divided into different treatment groups.
  • Rats treated with apilarnil showed a significant reduction in pro-inflammatory markers like IL-6 and TNF-α, especially in the group receiving the highest dose of 0.8 g/kg, indicating a strong protective effect.
  • Results suggested that apilarnil's protective benefits likely stem from its ability to modulate immune response markers in the kidneys during LPS-induced sepsis.

Purpose: The telomere length is shown to act as a biomarker, especially for biological aging and cardiovascular diseases, and it is also suggested that with this correlation, increased exposure to the oxidative stress accelerates the vascular aging process. Therefore, this study aims to understand the correlation between the plasma oxidative stress index (OSI) status and leukocyte telomere length (LTL) and cardiologic parameters between the ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) groups.

Method: One hundred one newly diagnosed patients with STEMI (n = 55) and NSTEMI (n = 46) were included in the study, along with 100 healthy controls who matched the patients in terms of age and gender.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the levels of serum myonectin and irisin in pregnant women with and without gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Method: A total of 80 pregnant women participated in our study (which consisted of 40 patients with GDM, 40 participants as the control group). Myonectin and irisin levels were analyzed through the ELISA technique, in addition to metabolic parameters in the serum samples of the participants.

Several studies have shown that rs9939609 and rs1421085 in fat mass and obesity-associated ( ) gene rs17782313 and rs12970134 in melanocortin-4 receptor ( ) gene influence obesity. In the present study, we aimed to determine association between rs9939609, rs1421085, rs17782313, and rs12970134 polymorphism, and their relation with body mass index (BMI), glucose, insulin, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and lipid values in obese children. We included 100 newly diagnosed obese children and 100 healthy children.

Objective: Telomere length is used as an indicator of biological aging. It is well known that one of the most remarkable risk factors of recurrent pregnancy losses is advanced maternal age. The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between idiopathic recurrent pregnancy loss and telomere length.

The world has given an outbreak alarm in the last two decades, with different members of the coronavirus family infecting people at different times. The spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which last appeared in December 2019 in China and spread rapidly to all over the world, has led the scientific world to studies on these viruses. While scientists are trying to develop vaccines or drugs against the virus, the body's immune response to the virus is emerged the biggest guide.

Article Synopsis
  • In patients with chronic stable coronary artery disease (CAD), the presence of well-developed collateral circulation (CCC) is linked to lower long-term mortality rates.
  • This study investigated the relationship between serum levels of calprotectin, angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1), and angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) and CCC in 147 patients with stable angina, dividing them into groups based on their CCC status.
  • Results indicated that patients with poor CCC had higher levels of calprotectin and Ang-1 but lower levels of Ang-2, suggesting that calprotectin could be an important biomarker for assessing and managing anti-ischemic treatment in these patients.

Pentasomy X is an extremely rare sex chromosome abnormality, a condition that only affects females, in which three more X chromosomes are added to the normally present two chromosomes in females. We investigated the novel clinical findings in a 1-year-old female baby with pentasomy X, and determined the parental origins of the X chromosomes. Our case had thenar atrophy, postnatal growth deficiency, developmental delay, mongoloid slant, microcephaly, ear anomalies, micrognathia and congenital heart disease.

A majority of patients with bladder cancer present with superficial disease and subsequently, some patients show progression to muscle invasive or metastatic disease. Bladder cancer has a complex genetic process and identification of the genetic alterations which occur during progression may lead to the understanding of the nature of the disease and provide the possibility of early treatment. The aim of the present study was to compare the structural and numerical chromosomal differences and changes in the p16 and p53 genes between low-grade (LG) and high-grade (HG) bladder cancer (BC) using cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic methods.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a malignant B-cell neoplasm characterized by an uncontrolled proliferation of aberrant plasma cells in the bone marrow. Chromosome aberrations in MM are complex and represent a hallmark of the disease, involving many chromosomes that are altered both numerically and structurally. Nearly half of the cases are nonhyperdiploid and show IGH translocations with the following partner genes: CCND1, FGFR3 and MMSET, MAF, MAFB, and CCND3.

Uterine leiomyomas (UL) are extremely common neoplasms in women of reproductive age, and are associated with a variety of characteristic choromosomal aberrations (CAs). The p53 gene has been reported to play a crucial role in suppressing the growth of a variety of cancer cells. Therefore, the present study investigated the effects of CAs and the p53 gene on ULs.

Background: Neuroblastoma (NB), like most human cancers, is characterized by genomic instability, manifested at the chromosomal level as allelic gain, loss or rearrangement. Genetics methods, as well as conventional and molecular cytogenetics may provide valuable clues for the identification of target loci and successful search for major genes in neuroblastoma. We aimed to investigate AURKA and MYCN gene rearrangements and the chromosomal aberrations (CAs) to determine the prognosis of neuroblastoma.

We hypothesized that bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) would have a possible role in the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS disease model was developed in Wistar albino male rats by intratracheal instillation of physiological saline solution. Anesthezied and tracheotomized rats (n = 8) with ARDS were pressure-controlled ventilated.
