An ionic liquid containing arsonium cation.

Cations in ionic liquids (ILs) are typically derived from ammonium or phosphonium structures with long alkyl chains, and it is well established that the central atom significantly influences the properties of the resulting ILs. In this study, an arsonium-based IL, trihexylmethylarsonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide, was synthesized. The arsonium cation was found to contribute to lower viscosity and higher ionic conductivity, while maintaining sufficient stability compared to its phosphonium counterpart.

Efficacy and safety of mucolytics in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: The efficacy and safety of mucolytics in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic bronchitis or exacerbations of COPD have been reported. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of mucolytics in patients with stable COPD.

Methods: Reports from randomized controlled trials to evaluate the efficacy and safety of mucolytics, including ambroxol, bromhexine, carbocisteine, erdosteine, fudosteine, l-methylcysteine, and N-acetylcysteine used in patients with stable COPD were searched for in PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and the Igaku Cyuo Zasshi database.

Factors affecting discrepancies in disease activity evaluation between patients and physicians in systemic lupus erythematosus-The importance of symptoms such as fatigue.

Objectives: There are often discrepancies in the evaluation of disease activity between patients and physicians in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In this study, we examined the factors that affect those evaluations.

Methods: Physician visual analogue scale (Ph-VAS), patient VAS (Pt-VAS), Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index 2000 (SLEDAI-2k), glucocorticoid (GC) usage and dose, age, Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics/American College of Rheumatology Damage Index, and three patient-reported outcomes (SLE symptom checklist [SSC], short-form 36 questionnaire [SF-36], and LupusPRO) were obtained from a study performed in 2019 using 225 SLE outpatients of the Kyoto Lupus Cohort at Kyoto University Hospital.

A case of vesiculobullous dermatomyositis with anti-NXP-2 antibody without malignancy.

Vesiculobullous dermatomyositis (VD) is a rare manifestation of dermatomyositis (DM) and has been suggested to be associated with malignancy. Although the myositis-specific autoantibodies are associated with distinct clinical presentations of DM, those associated with VD remain unclear. Here, we present the case of a 54-year-old man with VD who tested positive for antinuclear matrix protein 2 (NXP-2) antibodies, one of the DM-specific autoantibodies.

Diffusely distributed centrilobular micronodules and branching opacities as the main chest computed tomography manifestations in a patient with humidifier lung.

We report a 60-year-old man with humidifier lung showing diffusely distributed centrilobular micronodules and branching opacities on chest computed tomography (CT). Fever and dyspnea occurred 2 months after using an ultrasonic humidifier. KL-6 and SP-D were within normal ranges.

Significant association of HLA-A26 with uveitis and gastrointestinal involvement in patients with Behçet's disease in a multicentre study.

Objectives: Specific human leukocyte antigen (HLA) haplotypes are associated with Behçet's disease. Because the effects of HLA-A26 and its combination with HLA-B51 on organ involvement in Behçet's disease have not been well demonstrated, we aimed to examine them.

Methods: This multicentre, cross-sectional, observational study enrolled patients with Behçet's disease who visited Kyoto University Hospital between 2018 and 2021 or Kurashiki Central Hospital between 2006 and 2016 (n = 200).

Fecal-adherent mucus is a non-invasive source of primary human MUC2 for structural and functional characterization in health and disease.

The O-glycoprotein Mucin-2 (MUC2) forms the protective colon mucus layer. While animal models have demonstrated the importance of Muc2, few studies have explored human MUC2 in similar depth. Recent studies have revealed that secreted MUC2 is bound to human feces.

The gut mucus network: A dynamic liaison between microbes and the immune system.

A complex mucus network made up of large polymers of the mucin-family glycoprotein MUC2 exists between the large intestinal microbial mass and epithelial and immune cells. This has long been understood as an innate immune defense barrier against the microbiota and other luminal threats that reinforces the barrier function of the epithelium and limits microbiota contact with the tissues. However, past and recent studies have provided new evidence of how critical the mucus network is to act as a 'liaison' between host and microbe to mediate anti-inflammatory, mutualistic interactions with the microbiota and protection from pathogens.

Factors associated with osteoporosis and fractures in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: Kyoto Lupus Cohort.

Objectives: Osteoporosis and compression fractures of the lumbar spine are some of the major adverse effects of glucocorticoid therapy in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study examined the association between bone mineral density, bone turnover markers, presence of vertebral fractures, and Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics/American College of Rheumatology Damage Index in SLE patients.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 246 outpatients with SLE at the Kyoto University Hospital.

An ultra-small nine-color spectrometer with a two-layer biparted ten-dichroic-mirror array and an image sensor.

An ultra-small (54 × 58 × 8.5 mm) and large aperture (1 × 7 mm) nine-color spectrometer-using an array of ten dichroic mirrors "biparted" as two layers-was developed and used for snapshot spectral imaging. Incident-light flux with a cross section smaller than the aperture size is split into nine color fluxes with 20-nm-width contiguous wavelength bands and central wavelengths of 530, 550, 570, 590, 610, 630, 650, 670, and 690 nm.

Effects of Physicochemical Properties of Constituent Ions of Ionic Liquid on Its Permeation through a Silicone Membrane.

Ionic liquids (ILs), defined as liquid salts composed of anions and cations, have the advantage of allowing constituent ions to be stably absorbed through biological membranes, such as skin. However, limited information is currently available on the effects of the physicochemical properties of constituent ions on the membrane permeation of ILs. Therefore, we herein investigated the effects of the polarity of constituent cations on the membrane permeation of each constituent ion from IL.

Work engagement scale: Validating the Japanese UWES-9 standard through an automotive industry sample.

Background: The Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) is widely used as a psychometric assessment scale to measure work engagement by relative evaluation. Determining standard values for absolute evaluation would make it more useful. The merit of absolute evaluation is that it can offer an objective evaluation to personnel members regardless of their status in the organization.

Effects of NP-1815-PX, a P2X4 Receptor Antagonist, on Contractions in Guinea Pig Tracheal and Bronchial Smooth Muscles.

Administration of a P2X4 receptor antagonist to asthma model mice improved asthma symptoms, suggesting that P2X4 receptor antagonists may be new therapeutics for asthma. However, the effects of these antagonists on tracheal/bronchial smooth muscle (TSM and BSM) have not been investigated. This study examined the effects of NP-1815-PX, a selective P2X4 receptor antagonist, on guinea pig TSM and BSM contractions.

Docosahexaenoic Acid Selectively Suppresses U46619- and PGF-Induced Contractions in Guinea Pig Tracheal Smooth Muscles.

We investigated the potential inhibitory effects of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on the contractions of guinea pig tracheal smooth muscles in response to U46619 (a thromboxane A (TXA) mimetic) and prostaglandin F (PGF) to examine whether this n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid suppresses prostanoid-induced tracheal contractions. DHA (3 × 10 M) significantly suppressed tracheal contractions elicited by lower concentrations of U46619 (10 M) and PGF (5 × 10 M) (vs. control), although it did not suppress the contractions induced by higher concentrations (U46619: 10 M; PGF: 10 M).

Development of Liquid-Chromatography Tandem-Mass-Spectrometry Method for Determining Environmental Contamination by Powdered Medicinal Drugs in Pharmacies.

The environment and personnel are both exposed to powdered pharmaceuticals inside pharmacies. This makes developing new methods for rapidly determining such contaminants an important objective. In this study, we developed a liquid-chromatography tandem-mass-spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for the simultaneous qualitative and quantitative determination of powdered medicinal drugs, such as famotidine, risperidone, lansoprazole, olanzapine, haloperidol, clarithromycin, promethazine, levomepromazine, and chlorpromazine.

Tertiary arsine ligands for the Stille coupling reaction.

The Stille coupling reaction is one of the most important coupling reactions. It is well known that the triphenylarsine ligand can accelerate the reaction rate of Stille coupling. However, other arsine ligands have never been investigated for the Stille coupling reaction so far.

Measurement of various intensities of physical activities and categorization of "Locomotive" and "Household" activities provide a subject-specific detailed assessment.

This study aimed to compare the physical activity (PA) measured by a wearable sensor device (WSD) and the step count measurement, and to investigate the association between PAs and lifestyle. Data of 301 participants were collected from March 2019 to March 2021. Step counts, sedentary behavior, performance time of light/moderate/vigorous PA, METs × hour of "Locomotive" and "Household" categorized activities, and energy expenditure (EE) were measured by the WSD, respectively.

Impaired placentomal interferon signaling as the possible cause of retained fetal membrane in parturition-induced cows.

Although hormonal induction of parturition in cattle results in the successful delivery of healthy calves, the risk of retained fetal membrane is significantly increased. In a previous study, a combination of the long-acting glucocorticoid, triamcinolone acetonide, with a high dose of betamethasone partially normalized the placentomal gene expression during parturition; however, the incidence of retained fetal membrane remained high. This study further explored placentomal dysfunction and aimed to elucidate the mechanism of retained fetal membrane in parturition-induced cows.

Docosahexaenoic Acid and Eicosapentaenoic Acid Inhibit the Contractile Responses of the Guinea Pig Lower Gastrointestinal Tract.

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), and are abundant in fish oil. These n-3 PUFAs have been reported to improve the lower gastrointestinal (LGI) disorders such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease through their anti-inflammatory effects. However, there are few studies on the effect of n-3 PUFAs on motility of the LGI tract, such as the ileum and colon, the parts frequently affected by these inflammatory disorders.

Correlation between irreversible organ damage and the quality of life of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: The Kyoto Lupus Cohort survey.

Objectives: It is important to clarify the relationship between irreversible organ damage and the quality of life (QOL) by considering the unique factors of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We aimed to clarify their correlation using SLE-specific QOL assessment tools. We also aimed to identify which type of organ damage is adversely correlated with the QOL.

An exploratory study on the impact of static and dynamic sitting postures on lumbar and pelvic mobility during visual display terminal work.

[Purpose] Limited studies exist on the impact of sustained work at a visual display terminal (VDT) on the position and motion of the pelvis and lumbar spine. We evaluated the changes in movement of the lumbar column and pelvis during VDT work. [Participants and Methods] We evaluated the sitting posture of 20 healthy adults while they performed VDT work.

Validation and verification of the Japanese version of the systemic lupus erythematosus symptom checklist for patient quality of life.

Objective: The systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) symptom checklist (SSC) is a patient-reported outcome measure consisting of 38 queries. We translated SSC into Japanese and attempted to validate its usefulness for evaluating the quality of life (QOL) of SLE patients and identify factors that affect QOL.

Methods: Data from the Medical Outcomes Study Short-form 36 questionnaire (SF-36), Japanese LupusPRO, the Japanese version of the SSC (SSC-J) questionnaire, SLEDAI-2k, and the physician global assessment (PGA) were obtained on the same day from 226 SLE outpatients of the Kyoto Lupus cohort at Kyoto University Hospital.

Occupational Fatalities Due to Mammal-Related Accidents in Japan, 2000-2019.

Introduction: Animal-related fatal accidents occur annually while individuals are outside working. This study intended to evaluate the trends of occupational fatal accidents related to mammals and compare them with nonoccupational accidents.

Methods: We collected occupational and nonoccupational fatalities related to mammals between 2000 and 2019 from data on fatal occupational accident cases certified by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, Japan, in addition to other statistics from relevant ministries, media reports such as newspapers, and academic case reports.
