Euodia Fruit is a crude drug used to treat migraine and headaches and is well-known to contain indole alkaloids, which may contribute to the observed pharmacological activities. A methanolic extract of Euodia Fruit exhibited pancreatic lipase inhibitory activity (IC 13.9 mg/mL).

Postoperative deviation in Wassel types II and III radial polydactyly: a retrospective analysis of 73 thumbs.

This study examined the relationship between osteochondral stability and postoperative deviation at the interphalangeal (IP) joint in Wassel types II and III radial polydactyly. Cases with cartilaginous fusion between the radial distal phalanx and the proximal phalanx were classified as type IIB, while the remaining cases were categorized as type IIA. In conventional surgery, the cartilage was routinely resected on the radial aspect of the proximal phalangeal head, while in the modified procedure, this was preserved to avoid postoperative radial deviation.

Eel larvae apparently feed on marine snow, but many aspects of their feeding ecology remain unknown. The eukaryotic 18S rRNA gene sequence compositions in the gut contents of four taxa of anguilliform eel larvae were compared with the sequence compositions of vertically sampled seawater particulate organic matter (POM) in the oligotrophic western North Pacific Ocean. Both gut contents and POM were mainly composed of dinoflagellates as well as other phytoplankton (cryptophytes and diatoms) and zooplankton (ciliophoran and copepod) sequences.

The lateral capitello-humeral angle (LCHA), which is an index of sagittal alignment of the elbow, has gradually been adopted for the postoperative assessment of radiographic results. However, the normal values and ranges of the LCHA remain unclear. A retrospective cohort study was performed to evaluate the normal values and ranges of the LCHA in a sample of healthy children with even distributions of age, sex and laterality.

Three-dimensional preoperative planning for adult acute plastic bowing of the ulna.

Case: We report a case of adult acute plastic deformity of the ulna. Ulnar osteotomy was planned using 3-dimensional (3D) surface data from both injured and intact sides using surface registration technique. Opening wedge osteotomy was planned to correct the position of the ulnar fovea with respect to the proximal ulna.

Objective: The objective of this study was to calculate the positive rate and overall concordance rate of high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) test and cytology using self-sampled and physician-sampled cervicovaginal tests and to compare both specimens.

Molecular diet analysis of Anguilliformes leptocephalus larvae collected in the western North Pacific.

Natural diets of leptocephalus larvae have been enigmatic. In this study, we collected DNA samples from the gut contents and body surface of leptocephali belonging to the five Anguilliform families (Anguillidae, Chlopsidae, Congridae, Muraenidae, and Serrivomeridae) from the northwest Pacific and performed next-generation 18S rDNA sequencing. Wide variety of eukaryotes was detected in both samples, from which eight eukaryotic groups (jellyfish, conoid parasite, tunicate, copepod, krill, segmented worm, fungi, and dinoflagellate) were selected on the basis of abundance.

Quality Improvement of Blood Drawing Through Targeted Training Using an Operation Support System.

In order to reduce the rate of needle re-insertion (hereafter, retaking) during a blood drawing operation, we proposed a method for training blood drawing staff, based on data analysis. The method is composed of three steps: (1) analysis of collected data for selecting staff to be trained intensively, (2) training, and (3) assessment of training results. We obtained the result that the retaking rate was reduced for the trained staff.

Pyelonephritis caused by Mannheimia varigena in a Holstein calf.

A 7-day-old calf died following development of mild respiratory symptoms. Postmortem examination revealed the kidneys were inflamed, and Gram-negative bacteria was detected in the kidneys, supporting the diagnosis of suppurative pyelonephritis. Mannheimia varigena antigen was found in the lesions and the cytoplasm of macrophages and neutrophils in the renal cortex.

Dynamics of seagrass bed microbial communities in artificial Chattonella blooms: A laboratory microcosm study.

The influence of algicidal and growth-inhibiting bacteria in a seagrass (Zostera marina) bed, and their capability of controlling blooms of the fish-killing raphidophyte flagellate, Chattonella antiqua, were examined in laboratory microcosm experiments. Bacterial communities in seawater collected from the seagrass bed and Z. marina biofilm suppressed artificial Chattonella blooms in the presence of their natural competitors and predators.
