Background: Inflammation is a critical protective response in the body, essential for combating infections and healing injuries. However, chronic inflammation can be harmful and significantly contribute to the development and progression of chronic diseases, with macrophage-mediated responses being central to these processes. This study presents "SBR-Pel," a new therapeutic blend of Shinbaro tab (SBR), a traditional herbal formula, and pelubiprofen (Pel), a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, and investigated their combined anti-inflammatory effects to create a treatment that both improves efficacy and reduces side effects.

Recent research has demonstrated that chronic pain, resulting from peripheral nerve injury, leads to various symptoms, including not only allodynia and hyperalgesia but also anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairment. These symptoms are believed to arise due to alterations in gene expression and neural function, mediated by epigenetic changes in chromatin structure. Emerging evidence suggests that acupuncture can modulate DNA methylation within the central nervous system, contributing to pain relief and the mitigation of comorbidities.

Article Synopsis
  • Bertolotti syndrome (BS) causes radiculopathy due to structural issues, but conservative treatments are preferred over surgery due to complications, making diagnosis and incidence somewhat controversial.
  • A 33-year-old male patient diagnosed with BS underwent 40 days of integrative Korean medicine (IKM) treatment, which significantly improved his pain and functional ability without any side effects.
  • The study suggests that IKM could be an effective management approach for BS, and highlights the need for additional research on the symptoms related to lumbosacral transitional vertebrae (LSTV).

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) progresses owing to damage and depletion of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells. Cytoprotection mitigates oxidative stress, nutrient deprivation, and mechanical stress, which lead to cell damage and necrosis. We aimed to examine the protective effect of Linne (RSL), common radish, against oxidative stress by HO in human NP cells and whether the RSL extracts can inhibit triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2), an inducer of apoptosis and degeneration in NP cells.

Background: Musculoskeletal symptoms, such as neck pain and low back pain (LBP) are common after a traffic accident (TA). While motion-style acupuncture treatment (MSAT) is effective in relieving pain, MSAT using traction (T-MSAT) has rarely been studied, and evidence for its efficacy and safety is lacking. To address this gap, this study aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of T-MSAT for pain and functional disturbances in patients with acute LBP caused by a TA.

The choice of treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) depends on symptom severity. When severe motor issues with urinary dysfunction are not present, conservative treatment is often considered to be the priority. One such conservative treatment is epidural injection, which is effective in alleviating inflammation and the pain caused by LSS-affected nerves.
