As an initial step to develop the transdermal delivery system of glucosamine hydrochloride (GL-HCl), the permeation study across the rat skin in vitro was performed to identify the most efficient vehicle with regard to the ability to deliver GL-HCl transdermally. The GL-HCl formulations such as o/w cream, liposome suspension, liposomal gel, and liquid crystalline vehicles were prepared and compared for transdermal flux of GL-HCl. The liquid crystalline vehicles were more effective in increasing the skin permeation of GL-HCl than o/w cream and liposomal vehicles.

The antimetastatic properties of soybean saponin were investigated by evaluating matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-2 and MMP-9) production in HT-1080 cells. The mRNA expression levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were determined by RT-PCR analysis. The levels of secreted MMP-2, MMP-9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) were determined by gelatin zymography and/or ELISA.

Genistein (GT) is an isoflavone from Leguminosae and has received much attention as a phytoestrogen. Genistin is a glycoside form of GT (genistein-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, GT-glu) is mainly found in soy-derived foods. In this study, we examined the pharmacokinetic properties and bioavailability of GT in rats and compared with those of GT-glu.

The multifunctional G-protein-coupled metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR) family comprises eight subtypes, some of which participate in tumorigenesis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate mGluR5 expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) tissues and oral cancer cell lines. We also investigated the prognostic significance of mGluR5 and its functional importance in the migration, invasion, and adhesion of oral cancer cells.
