Prcis: Elevated corneal hysteresis (CH) and resistance factor (CRF) in obese and overweight children imply weight's effect on corneal biomechanics. Increased Goldmann-correlated intraocular pressure (IOPg) in obese children indicates glaucoma risk, emphasizing screening for IOP and retinal changes.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of obesity on corneal biomechanics, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), and central macular thickness (CMT) in children.

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of preoperative 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) parameters, including maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG), hematologic prognostic indicators in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) in terms of predicting prognosis.

Methods: One hundred and one patients who had undergone 18F-FDG PET/CT for initial staging were evaluated retrospectively. Patient data including pathologic stage at presentation, histology, tumor location, and overall survival (OS) were analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • Hemodynamic instability is common in elderly hypertensive patients during general anesthesia induction, and pulse wave velocity (PWV) serves as a key indicator of arterial stiffness.
  • A study was conducted to determine the relationship between preoperative PWV measurements and hemodynamic changes during anesthesia induction in hypertensive (HT) and non-hypertensive (non-HT) patients.
  • Results showed that higher PWV in HT patients correlated with increased rates of hypotension at key moments during intubation, suggesting that PWV can effectively predict hypotension risks in this group.*

  • Endovascular treatment for Buerger's disease is complicated, particularly when traditional methods fail; this study examines a new transpedal retrograde approach for patients with ambiguous proximal caps.
  • Eighteen patients who had unsuccessful antegrade interventions were treated, showing significant improvement in limb ischemia severity and wound scores after the retrograde technique.
  • The results suggest that the transpedal retrograde method is a viable and effective option for limb salvage in Buerger's disease, especially when conventional approaches do not work.

Purpose: To investigate the association of hepatic and renal parameters with the development of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in premature infants with a gestational age ≤ 32 weeks.

Methods: Medical records of 240 preterm infants were reviewed retrospectively, 85 of them were grouped as type 1, type 2 ROP, and control group. The 4th week hepatic and renal function test results of the groups, on the day of their first ROP examinations, were compared for the risk of development of ROP and the development of type 1 ROP.

Aims: Noroviruses may cause both epidemic and sporadic acute gastroenteritis globally. Thus, this study evaluated the prevalence of norovirus in stool samples of hospitalized patients with acute gastroenteritis in Aydin, Turkey using enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) and real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) and genotyped positive samples to detect which genotypes have currently circulated.

Methods: This retrospective descriptive study collected 92 stool samples from patients with acute gastroenteritis symptoms from Aydın Adnan Menderes University Hospital from September 2017 to May 2019.

Objectives: To predict the risk of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) development according to routine complete blood count (CBC) parameters.

Materials And Methods: The medical records and CBC results of 150 premature neonates were retrospectively evaluated. As ROP develops 1 month after birth, first month CBC profiles of neonates without ROP (non-ROP), with ROP (ROP group), and those with Type 1, Type 2, and Stage 1+2 ROP were compared.

Introduction And Objectives: Vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased susceptibility to infections and wheezing. We aimed to evaluate the relation between vitamin D levels, viral infections and severity of attacks in children with recurrent wheezing.

Materials And Methods: A total of 52 patients who applied with wheezing, at the ages of 12-60 months with a history of three or more wheezing attacks in the last year and 54 healthy children were included.

We aimed to compare right and left ventricular functions by echocardiography (ECHO) according to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) groups, and to determine their associations with functional parameters. Data of patients with COPD who underwent ECHO between 2015 and 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. The results of pulmonary function tests, 6-minute-walking test (6MWT), Modified Medical Research Council (mMRC), COPD assessment test (CAT), and BODE scores were recorded together with ECHO results showing right and left ventricular functions.

Background: Despite significant improvements in the field of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) over the past 40 years, disparate survival rates are reported after in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA). Few studies have addressed the effect of comorbid conditions on survival after IHCA.

Objective: Examine IHCAs over a two-year period, determine survival rates, and assess the effects of comorbid diseases on survival after IHCA.

The effects of comorbidities on systemic inflammation markers in stable asthmatics and the consequences of such effects have not been well evaluated. We aimed to evaluate the effect of comorbidities on clinical manifestations and systemic inflammation in asthmatic patients under control. The study group consisted of asthmatic patients who applied to our pulmonology outpatient clinic and volunteered to participate.

Objectives: The success rate of methotrexate (MTX) therapy varies among tubal ectopic pregnancies. Common methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) polymorphisms (C677T&A1298C) have been suggested to alter MTX effect. This study aimed to assess and compare MTX treatment failure rates with respect to MTHFR polymorphisms in trophoblasts of ectopic tubal pregnancies.

Article Synopsis
  • A study explored the relationship between tumor stage, specific biomarkers (Ki-67, Bcl-2, HIF-1α, cyclin D1), and metabolic imaging metrics (MTV, TLG, SUV) in 25 laryngeal cancer patients.
  • Significant correlations were found between cyclin D1 and metrics like MTV and TLG, while Bcl-2 showed correlations with SUV and tumor stage.
  • The research emphasizes the importance of combining biomarker analysis with PET/CT imaging data for better staging and treatment strategies in laryngeal cancer.

The aim of the present study was to explore the possible relations of maternal serum and amniotic fluid nitric oxide (NO) and of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) concentrations with uterine artery Doppler indices (UtADs) in a healthy second trimester obstetric population. In this regard, the levels of NO and VEGF-A were measured in maternal sera and the amniotic fluid samples were in 36 subjects who were in their early second trimester of pregnancy. The mean levels for VEGF-A were 110.

  • Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that causes recurring inflammation in the colon, and the study investigates the levels of vitamin D receptor (VDR) in biopsy samples from UC patients.
  • The research analyzed VDR levels in 112 UC patients compared to 30 control subjects, using various statistical tests to assess significance.
  • Results indicated that UC patients had significantly lower VDR levels than controls, suggesting that vitamin D optimization may play a therapeutic role in managing UC.
